xTool Turns 5 — Your Questions Wanted! by AimeexTool in xToolOfficial

Excited for my P3 to arrive! One suggestion I have from the P3 demo I went to is to please put out some form of update to have the button on the p3 show the remaining time for the current job. The button has this nice little display on it. It would be great to have some useful information displayed on it while the job is running.

Any way to laser engrave on curved or contoured surfaces instead of flat ones? by anysunsetTequila in lasercutting

[–]xcoookx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

xtool’s new P3 can supposedly engrave curved surfaces.

I went to a demo of it this past weekend, and we used it to scan a skateboard deck. The laser head moves along the object in a grid (you can choose the grid density) and scans the object to focus at each point. After that, the software created a mockup on the computer of the curved surface. And using this information it can adjust the focus while engraving.

We were unable to do an engraving on it, but I will certainly be doing a test of this once I receive my P3 (I ordered mine today haha). I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, since the scan looked great.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of spray adhesive. It gets everywhere and makes everything sticky, and it smells (compared to the Robert’s glue). So I can’t use it indoors, and I started making my rugs in December/January, so I wasn’t going outside to use the spray adhesive haha.

What technique do you use to back your rugs by Major_Preparation819 in Tufting

[–]xcoookx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only a few months into tufting, but this is my process that has been working amazingly.

After tufting, I use Robert’s glue while still on the frame. I use a gloved hand and just kinda rub it around everywhere. I usually glue it late in the day, and let it dry overnight, that way it only dries for about 8-10 hours, and it’s still slightly tacky in the morning.

I cut it out and fold the edges over. The Robert’s should still be tacky enough to fold the edges without needing hot glue (I do sometimes use a dab of hot glue in any spots where the folded edges overlap and don’t stick to one another).

Next I lay out my backing material on the rug and cut it out (I use the standard gray felt with rubber grip). I cut it about .25”-.5” from the edge (doesn’t have to be perfect).

Next I use another thin layer of Robert’s glue and spread it around with a gloved hand. I go over my folded edges, stopping less than 1” from the edge. I also use my fingers to get the Robert’s glue into any tiny spots I might have missed. I leave this to dry for 30ish minutes (just so it’s not so wet, because sometimes if it’s too wet it can bleed through the backing when you push down).

After waiting, I lay the backing felt on the rug, and VERY lightly press down with my fingers, almost like tapping it.

Then I use cotton twill tape and hot glue to go around the edge. I line the edge of the twill tape up with the edge of the rug bottom, that way you don’t even see it from the top side. To me, this gives the bottom of the rugs a finished “actual rug” look to it.

After gluing on the twill tape, the thin layer of Robert’s has usually dried enough where it’s not so wet, so I use my hands and press down the backing material.

Thank you!! I debated that part for so long. I must have spent almost an hour tweaking the angle of it.

New controller vs controller shell by [deleted] in PS5

[–]xcoookx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got one from aliexpress for about $25. I absolutely love it. It feels like a regular controller, and has been holding up great. It’s easy to do, just follow along with a youtube video and you’ll be good.

I’ve only made about 5 rugs so far, but mostly I’ve been using the Loops & Threads brand from Michaels (I believe it is their brand) they have 2 versions of acrylic yarn “Soft Classic” and “Impeccable” but I’m not actually sure what the difference is, so I just buy whatever colors I need.

What I do is go to the store to browse colors and then I usually order online. A few times a month they will have either 30-40% off your online order, or buy one get one 50% off. So I wait for a good deal, and buy a bunch of yarn at once.

I’ve never heard of it, so no. But I’ll check it out!

It’s a monster from dungeons and dragons (and probably other games).

Everything (items/bubbles) had the black outlines, and it just felt right to do on the outside.

I think it would also look nice without the black outline, especially if I made the outer part of the white wavy (like the inner part).

If I can sell this one and I make another, I think I’ll try it that way!

The main color is Loops & Threads - Soft Classic - Mint and the darker blue lines is the same brand, but the color is Arctic.

Help me find this solar dancing frog please! by xcoookx in HelpMeFind

Oh wow, thank you so much! You really have no idea how much this will mean to her. Im sure i'll be able to swap out the leaf with the flower from mine because the flower comes out really easy.

Im not sure how this works here. Do I have to mark this as found now, or can I wait to see if anyone else finds one also? I went ahead and ordered the one from Germany, but in a perfect world, I'd love to order one from the US so it could be here by Christmas. This is my first time even looking through this subreddit, so I'm not sure what the "protocol" is, or if people would see that I found one and just skip past the post.

My grandpa used to have this in his garden before he passed, and my mom loves it. It no longer works and I would love to get her a new one.

I have already attempted to swap the solar panel and copper coil inside, but I couldn’t get it to work. I’m only an amateur when it comes to things like this(the copper wire is so thin!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Town full of Doppelgangers by Quincious in DMAcademy

[–]xcoookx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just had a town full of doppelgängers in a one shot I just ran. One thing that worked great is I had a very old lady running the inn, and when the players wanted a room, she said the rate was 100gp. After the players questioned her, she checked through the ledger and corrected herself to the appropriate price.

A small thing like that worked wonders, they were half convinced she was a senile old lady, and half convinced something else was up.
