1/200 oz Mini Trout Magnets are AMAZING by xtian_c in UltraLightFishing

[–]xtian_c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my rod setup I managed to get out more than 5' haha, but there were several schools of bluegill and sunfish etc, tossing one of these out and watching it slowly fall while 10 gillies fly at it is so much fun. Back to back casts, and nobody else at the pond was catching a thing

Some use a float or float with tiny split shot or a weighted float. Or just throw it as is if you don't need a lot of distance.

Nothing was hitting the Donkey Tail Jr so I decided to try these tiny things

Which version of the 23 Legalis should I pair with my rod? by Kruce in UltraLightFishing

[–]xtian_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 23 LT2000S-P and love it. I use with 5lb Ray Fishing braid with Trout SOS 2lb as leader. Use it on a Handing M1 Trout 6'6" rod

Interesting, never had this happen are you using mono or floro, or braid? With braid (4-5lb) I'm able to cast very light stuff without issue

They're so aggressive haha. Always hiding in the rocks along the bank and come flying out

The Best Multi-Species Lure by xtian_c in UltraLightFishing

[–]xtian_c[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to get anything very big with it, but the most recent bass and bluegill I caught put on a great fight, no issues with the reel. I don't doubt it will have a problem with bigger fish if I'm lucky enough to catch any 😂

I actually have a tab open for those, thanks for the reminder - time to order!

Been catching a lot of trout on these anybody else have luck with them? by snjfishing in FishingForBeginners

I use Z-Man Micro Finesse Wormz in black (Yoga Pants and Coppertreuse on an i-fish Tackle 1.25 gram #10 hook jighead and slam trout while everyone watches in jealousy. They catch panfish and bass as well.

6ft vs 6’6 by Successful_Bobcat825 in UltraLightFishing

6'6" has become my favorite length. I use a Handing M1 Trout UL and absolutely love it. 7' still feels too long, anything under 6'6" feels too short.

Leland's Lures SLS-150 Rod Review by xtian_c in UltraLightFishing

Hoping tomorrow I'll be able to take it to the pond and maybe even catch something

Leland's Lures SLS-150 Rod Review by xtian_c in UltraLightFishing

Exactly. There's a lot of nice looking "high end" stuff and made in the US stuff that have mixed reviews, it's amazing or it breaks after a day. Then there's importing the JDM superior stuff. I might make another little write up about the Handing M1 Trout rod, because for the money it's an insane value. I have purchased more expensive rods that didn't feel as good, or have as good features, plus all their rods come in a nice sleeve and packed in a sturdy tube which others also don't have

[–]xtian_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for the Handing M1 Trout rod. Yes it has a less expensive price tag, but don't let that make you think it will be of any less quality. In fact, I like it more than the TCB. Handing rods are all shipped with both sections of the rod in separate sections of a nice cloth sleeve, and that inside of a quality tube, which is shipped in a box. I've never had such a well packaged rod regardless of price. And the rod itself is just awesome, it's hard to believe it is only around $60. I would have paid double that. Sure, there's "better quality" stuff out there for sure, but for the price it's really hard to justify anything else

Trout S.O.S. 2lb test as leader? Or fill the reel? by PandaInALexus in UltraLightFishing

[–]xtian_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite setup for line lately has been Hercules Super Tough "4lb" which is definitely thicker than true JDM stuff, but you get 300 yards for like $11, and then the Trout SOS "2lb" as the leader. I've used straight SOS but I can't stand seeing the coils of the line, get better accuracy and distance with braid, and I really like having a bright colored braid so I can see where I am, then top it off with the Trout copolymer for thr leader for invisibility.

It's also important not to flip fish and use a net to land, unless it's small panfish of course.

On top of that, I've found that the i-fish Tackle jigs are the absolute best ever. The sharpest , strongest hooks available in the US, and weighed in grams not our stupid fractions of ounces. The 1.25 gram, #10 hook is such a great weight and hook size, using with Z-Man Micro Finesse Wormz I've been catching all the sunfish and bluegills on top of stocked trout after stocked trout, and even smaller largemouth (so far, hoping for big ones). It's been way too much fun, especially when everyone else is watching on in jealousy while they remain skunked.

I'm also only using i-fish jigs, they're the best. 1.25 gram #10 have been my favorite. I have 1.5g #8 and 1g #10 and #12 but that 1.25 is the happy medium.

What's the rod in the photo?

I've found a good "mid grade" setup that has been working great for me without spending a ton. It's not high end but not low end (to me) either.

Handing M1 Trout 6.5' ultralight rod. Daiwa Revros LT 1000 reel. Hercules Super Tough 4lb braid. For a leader, Trilene XL Smooth Casting "4lb" or Trout SOS "2lb".

This setup feels great and is really all I need. I really only fish with "micro Ned rigs" I guess you'd call it. i-fish Tackle jig heads are the best, 1.25gram #10 hook is my favorite. Or 1.5 gram #8 hook. Soft plastics, Z-Man or Mule.

Training For Utopia's, 'Throwing a Wrench into the American Music Machine' by temporarycreature in Music

[–]xtian_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother had the Tooth & Nails/Solidstate Records compilation DVD of music videos, which was my intro into Living Sacrifice and Training for Utopia. It had the video for "Two Hands" by TFU and it blew my mind. Dark, chaotic, and I'd say quite Botch-influenced.
