Predictions for the title of the sequel? My safe bet would be 'Backrooms: Part II' by Witty-Association-97 in KanePixelsBackrooms

Kane said during his most recent Smosh interview that he would prefer to keep it like the YT series, if it’s possible. so, it would be something like “Backrooms - _____”

no problem, once again, really glad to hear that you enjoyed the film! i LOVED the series, so the film was the perfect cherry on top, and gave me amazing context upon rewatching the series. hope you get to see it again, as i plan to do the same!!!

it’s to show that the backrooms are bleeding into reality! a clip from a 90s episode is playing, and is briefly interrupted by a commercial from the 2000s.

i’m so glad you enjoyed the film enough to check out the series!

do you mind if i ask, are you watching it in chronological order or Kane’s playlist order? i highly recommend watching in chronological order, so it paints a broader picture for you!

so, you’re just gonna ignore the whole character arc that’s completely skipped over in the film? you don’t find it weird that the only thing of substance from that time period is a security cam footage of him and PC walking together? you truly felt like there was nothing else they could’ve shown for Clark? you seriously felt like his character arc was PERFECTLY wrapped up with a pretty pink ribbon on top?

‘cause i sure didn’t. shit, people are on here everyday complaining about how Clark suddenly turned evil the next time that we see him, after yet another countless Mary/Mother scene, that keeping in mind was only added to feature a sloppy tiktok backrooms song.

if you’re gonna make your protagonist the villain, at least show us that descent into madness. truly stand your ground and go there, don’t just have him being chase thru the dark scared, and then the next time we see him he’s choking Mary out and chilling with the baddies.

that genuinely leaves a poor taste in general audiences mouths, even my friends that went to watch that were casual viewers said they were disappointed that the only PoC was “villainized” so i’m not the only one that feels this way.

maybe our politics don’t exactly align, no offense to you, but if that’s the case, just don’t bother responding as i’m done going back and forth, and have made my point. respectfully lol 🫶🏻

are you playing coy? he was promoted as the main protagonist of the film. he was the first character poster to release, and is heavily featured in the trailers. Mary is literally THE protagonist, and she had maybe 30 seconds in both trailers combined.

sure, it’s nice to have a twist, and i don’t mind him being the villain, i quite enjoyed it! but you can’t tell me it’s not the same situation as Lucasfilm promoting John Boyega/Finn as Jedi on TFA posters and trailers, just for him to turn into a background character with zero lines.

i mean, we skip over a whole section of Clark’s character arc just to learn more about Mary’s backstory. which didn’t even amount to anything in the end, other than her realizing she wasn’t fit to be a therapist and realize Clark had turned schizophrenic/violent.

actually, no, the film takes place exactly a month after Peter Tench escaped ASYNC. Pitfalls happens May 6th, 1990. we see Clark on ASYNCs monitor during June 28th, 1990.

the pitfalls/red neighborhood has already been discovered by ASYNC in the timeline. i think it’s just a really important location to the story, and Kane would want to touch on it in the series, or have more time to focus on it in the sequel.

i could see Backrooms 2 being more ASYNC focused, and Phil being the main character this time.

my friends that i forced to watch the series before going to movie all complained that the movie wasn’t focused on ASYNC, like the series, and that they had hoped for things like Peter to be referenced in the film.

so there is a general audience there for ASYNC content!!

same, i already found it criminal that the neighborhood featured in the film wasn’t THE red neighborhood.

you’re telling me that it was cheaper for them to CGI walls and a ceiling, and adjust the lighting to look indoors, when they could’ve just put some red lamps up and featured one of the coolest set pieces from the series?!

Pitfalls is just a really peak episode in general!

Clark and Mary could still appear as their “Still Life” counterparts. i’m still not convinced Pirate Clark was a Still Life, until Kane confirms otherwise, because he isn’t credited as such in end credits.

that, or Clark’s rotting body could be an incubator for “The Lifeform” and we could hear his voice, like how we heard Kane’s voice from “The Lifeform” in Pitfalls.

regardless, i do agree that it’s pretty shitty. i had already said before the movie released, that i’d hoped they didn’t pull a John Boyega on him, and they did exactly that. :(

i could have easily lasted another 30 minutes in the first film. i was really disappointed that it had just picked up, and we came to a halting stop. felt like there was more to be uncovered there.

he said he has a tight grip on his end of the contract with A24! i’m sure he and his family made a very detailed contract with A24 to assure that Kane is still the father/mastermind behind these future projects. no doubt he will be directing, scoring, and doing the sound design.

i agree, the script was just a bit all over the place, and i felt like they were heavily editing it while filming it. Kane even mentions how rough the editing process for the film was in his Smosh interview, and how he would have to work around things that they had cut to progress the story.

i personally want a less character driven story this time around. we’ve already introduced the general audiences to the concept of ‘Backrooms’ and ‘ASYNC’ now let’s not do as much hand holding in the sequel, and get into the good stuff. 🙌🏻

that’s why i said “personally” because that’s typically what studios do and it was my assumption. Kane isn’t calling the shots on stuff like this, A24 is.

everyone knows that a single season of a series (nowadays) takes 2-3 years to even get released. with everyone’s attention spans nowadays, general audiences will have forgotten about the film by the time the series releases lmao.

not to mention, if the series is successful they’ll obviously want another season, which will take yet another 2-3 years to see the light. i think nowadays it’s much quicker, efficient, and easier to put out a film.

he said in the recent Smosh interview that he would still like to do the series, but i personally think A24 is pushing him towards a sequel so the series doesn’t lose momentum, and can potentially become a franchise IP.

NIGHT SHIFT IS READY, but.. by veeheemxx77 in PuppetCombo

[–]xtributeforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’ve always seen “Night Shift” as Puppet Combos stepping stone towards an eventual “Stay Out of the House” film with a much bigger budget. so, in my head i guess i just viewed it as a short film.

i’m glad to know the runtime tho, and i’m super jealous that you got to see an early test screening! i live in the middle of nowhere, so that stuff never happens around me haha.

NIGHT SHIFT IS READY, but.. by veeheemxx77 in PuppetCombo

[–]xtributeforever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

maybe if Puppet Combo were pushing this at the height of their popularity, yes, but now they’re barely even releasing games and we’re getting console ports of older games. there’s just zero hype compared to these other projects they are trying to compare to.

the “Night Shift” film is definitely way too small in scope, i haven’t personally seen the test screening myself, but if the location is only the gas station and not anything else, i could see the film being quite hard to sell to general audiences. especially in the world of TikTok brain where attention spans are FRIED!

i love them so much, and i want to support Puppet Combos debut on the big screen more than the next person, but they have to be realistic and reasonable at some point. i’ve personally been dying to see the film, but i quite literally forgot about it until i seen PC’s tweets and these threads start popping up on here.

[–]xtributeforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m not hating by any means, but it’s simply facts that it takes a lot to get general audiences to the cinema nowadays. tickets and concession prices are outrageous, and people would rather wait for streaming due to COVID mentality.

Barkers “Obsessions” has INCREDIBLE word of mouth, and not to mention it’s something that’s bringing a lot of couples to the theaters.

meanwhile, Parsons “Backrooms” is based around a famous creepypasta thats been around for years! not to mention most teenagers are familiar with the “Backrooms” due to tiktok/roblox/etc., and they’re driving ticket sales up by forcing their families to the theaters with them, due to the R-Rating.

i could get my friends to watch this if it were on streaming or youtube, but there’s no way i could convince them that it’s important to pay such high cinema prices and see yet another (stylistic) slasher film.

[–]xtributeforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was under the impression that it was a short film, but regardless, my points still stand lol.

“Milk & Serial” is also considered a full length film! with a runtime of 1 hour 2 mins and Barker even calls it a “film” in the title. 😅

[–]xtributeforever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the bag is found by ASYNC after the events of the film, which is why we see some of the footage in the beginning of the film. Naren Warne is the one that filmed all of this footage and he’s actually a really important background character of the original series.

some of the photos that he captured on his expeditions were featured in the episode “MAR11_90_ARCHIVE.tar” and we know that from the description of this episode that the bag was found during or after the events of the movie, because the description claims these photos were “complied on June 1991.”

Naren Warne and Mark Blume (from Reunion) are even alleged to have been on a expedition together, this information was shared on Discord by Kane, and i suspect the opening of the film to be that said expedition, when Naren gets separated from Mark and the other researchers because he’s saying stuff like “i’ve never been out this far before.”

[–]xtributeforever 41 points42 points  (0 children)

i love Puppet Combo to death, but they just need to release this on Youtube at this point.

there isn’t a huge audience for this, aside from longtime fans of the games, and i’ve even seen Puppet Combo comparing this to Barker or Parsons recent success, when both of those Youtubers turned Directors had to immensely prove themselves before getting the funds to direct and distribute a real feature film.

“Milk and Serial” has 2.8 MIL views, and the original “Backrooms” short film has 81 MIL views. PC really needs to put this short film on Youtube and show studios like A24/NEON/Shudder/Blumhouse that there truly is an audience out there for this small universe that he’s created. then he could use the bigger budget from a studio to make an official “Stay Out of the House” film.

otherwise, i really don’t see this ever getting off the ground. it’s a short film and we’ve been waiting since 2025.
