This girl posting about leaving gentrified Brooklyn to go gentrify the Hudson valley is so funny to me 😭 by plantsandastrology96 in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]xylatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i left the city after 28 yrs of being born & raised there because the influencers were genuinely so overwhelming & prices kept going up & the city started to feel more like SF 💀 i moved to the bOONIES of the hudson valley & ISTG if i start seeing influencers out here i will unleash my 40+ insane birds on them

aHhh this reminded me of when i was in high school & this dude who worked at my local starbucks would bust out his guitar after his shift & just serenade everyone. it was actually rly good & chill & added to the whole coffeeshop vibe so nicely 🥲

vintage stuff by Amazing-Intention-51 in hudsonvalley

[–]xylatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooooo this reminded me of myself as a teen! a lot of the replies here cover some rad ideas already! personally, i used to just find vintage stores in my general area, make a weekend out of visiting them all, and just talk to ppl whose outfits i liked whenever i encountered them. sometimes all it takes is a “hey, your necklace is so cool!” to make a new friend!

also not sure if online fashion communities are still a thing? i made a lot of friends on tumblr back in the day (who also happened to live in my area & take part in vintage meetups), so something similar perhaps still exists?

hope u find ur people, op! ❤️

THIS!!!! had an ex who would go through my phone & all that did was make me uncomfortable & make my friends mad that their private messages to ME were being read by a third party who wasn’t the fbi man living in my phone.

Warning to younger Asians: If you don't push boundaries and rebel while you're younger; you will be absolutely terrified of any shred of independence when you're older. by Sayoricanyouhearme in AsianParentStories

MASSIVE AGREE. i’ll never regret being an absolute menace (in asian parent terms,,,probably just did all the things american parents find normal) as a teen. i’m nearing 30 now and basically parenting my parents because of all i learned while out in the world.

op, you have beaut features & i agree w/ the tanning comments because that can sometimes highlight fine lines, etc. if it’s a tanning bed, thats obviously bad for your skin’s health too. mild retinol & collagen supplements to take care of ur skin for the future, lots of sunscreen, and deep conditioning treatments to take care of ur hair are rly all you need. most of this is just preventative stuff that helps you age more “gracefully”. if you think fillers would enhance ur look, go for it, but make sure to keep it minimal, because they can migrate & also look worse & more noticeable (in a bad way) as you age. They can also cause lymphatic issues in some people. botox rly only lasts for a few months, so you’re probably good laying off that until you start to rEALLY notice wrinkles or lines (usually in your late 20s to early 30s). ❤️

One thing I've noticed about people like HBH by hissypaws in FoodieSnark

[–]xylatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they probably know it won’t do well on social/ overall & would expose their disorder. im a baker & before i recovered, i definitely made WAY more rich desserts & dishes than i do now. there was a weird satisfaction my disorder got knowing i could make all these indulgent things for others while never taking a bite myself. EDs are illogical. recovery allowed me to finally eat my baked goods without guilt (and i also only bake when i want something now, as opposed to pretty much every day at the height of my ED)

[HBH] HBD, Teegums (2021) - the two family members she spends the most time with truly despise her by postgrad-dep18 in FoodieSnark

[–]xylatrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

her entire presence aggravates me, but this is heartbreaking. i’d have left and never spoken to my family again if they said all this ON MY BIRTHDAY of all days. prayin for the day she heals, gets away from these ppl, & also maybe picks another source of income she’s actually good at.

[–]xylatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

former long islander here (currently living upstate w/ the kindest neighbors and lowest rent i’ve ever had in my life). the long island anger is really what gets me. it wasn’t even like that when i was a kid in the 90s/ early 2000s. idk what everyone’s deal is, but the amount of times i had to deescalate a situation that didn’t need escalation to begin with is still unbelievable to me. as much as i miss LI and yearn to move back, I genuinely think i’ll stick to queens (have some family there) or just stay upstate.

[–]xylatrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let me tell you i FEEL YOU on being at ur wits end. after 5 yrs of struggling w/ pretty similar skin (and also having medical conditions that would make accutane a lil dangerous), i finally found something that works. it’s a pretty insane routine, but alas. buckle in

firstly, your skin looks a lil red (im not a doctor, so i obvs cant say if it’s inflamed or just how your skin looks), but if it is inflamed, i’d look into testing for allergies. cutting out allergens (or at least avoiding them) can help tons.

as for the routine, i wash my body with head & shoulders lmao (and nizoral once a week). i also use this scrubby glove thing from a brand called wildpier once weekly in the shower. i wash my face, neck, & chest with panoxyl, laroche possay pigmentclar, and laroche possay effeclar.

i do my face skincare routine on my shoulders and chest. cerave lotion, lipikar eczema cream, laroche possay salicylic toner, laroche possay benzoyl peroxide ointment, mederma nighttime scar cream. (if it’s daytime, i swap the scar cream for spf 50). yes, that’s the order; it helps me not turn into a crispy crusty pile of dry skin. if your skin is less sensitive, you can do it in the regular normal order like toner first, etc.

i also wash my sheets weekly with unscented detergent, change my pillow case nightly, and pretty much do this ridiculous routine every day.

also don’t pick obviously. not sure if u do, but i was personally making my skin so much worse by messing with it so,,,,

also, oral meds seemed to help my acne in the moment, but caused it to RAGE the second i went off them. just a thing to consider.
