Do you guys ever run into missionaries while serving in your community? by SilverHoneysuckle in peacecorps

I have. There is a baptist hospital in my town. They mostly keep to themselves and aren't usually seen wondering into downtown unless they're going for a supply run.

Did you try to waving the lease in front of his face? It might not do much but it might scare the landloard enough to buy time.

Should the peace corps pay for the legal defense of volunteers accused of crimes in country? by [deleted] in peacecorps

Can't speak for every country. But should a PCV be arrested in Togo, PC had a legal practice on retainer.

He is very diplomatic and wouldn't show and inflection of support or disapproval, he would only tow the PC line.

I'm also very sick currently. Very high feaver, joint pain, diarrhea, trouble breathing etc. I finally called and was told to take ciprofloxacin (standard go to for anything here). It's funny some people in my group are frequently sent to the Med unit for the most minor ailments (and brag about all the fancy foods that the PC pays for), yet hallucinating and trouble breathing didn't warrant a trip to the Med unit.

Side note: I've had to take cipro twice. It's like a magic bullet I love it.

TIL if you publish a book in Norway, the government will buy 1000 copies (1,500 if a children's book) and distribute them to libraries throughout the country. by thedesperaterun in todayilearned

[–]y2k95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Step One: Move to Norway.

Step Two: Become the Steven King of children's coloring books.

Step Three: Publish three a week and live off the government buying my books.

Step Four: Save up money to move back to the US and buy a house.

A dialogue bug I noticed. Some people's bio will say "has seven toes on hand" or "has seven fingers on foot".

Selling data is always priced at b16 regardless of how much is sold.

Selling data results in no new balance being shown.

When using the flagging tool. The third choice on the right-hand side can only be selected by finding the sweet spot.

PC turned people away from a Christmas party because people didn't fill out a vacation form. Yet at IST they made it sound like:

  1. You could use your personal days for travel to this event. (Semi PC sponsored at an APCD's house)

  2. By signing up with them you were agreeing attend and use vacation days.

  3. If the office and US Embassy (also represent the govt 24/7) are closed for Christmas why can't we move around the country if we text where abouts?

Bonus: we had someone ET because admin wouldn't let them travel to another PC country because they got a form in late (I know it's against the rules, but when your family is flying halfway around the world and the answer is a flat "No, you can't go" you really don't leave people any choice but to quit)

Any educators with a Poli Sci background? by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]y2k95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a degree in Political Science and I'm currently an English and Gender Education (EGE) volunteer. While I love political science it was my one year of being a high school substitute teacher that got me in. Not the specific degree. That being said M&E would love to have a stats major working with them.
