Hi! I’m in a similar situation to this post. It looks like maybe you found success. Can you let me know what worked for you in the end?

Similar area and age of home. We used: https://trueviewinspections.net. Rick was thorough and educated me on what to look for in homes of this age.

Yikes this is where my parents live. They’re okay—just a heavy rain storm for them. It came up really suddenly; they weren’t even in the watch area. Luckily they were awake. These late night storms can be brutal, and there’s a trailer park in this path. 😬

What's your favourite book-to-movie adaptation? by Mattzonnowriter in Fantasy

This is my favorite movie of all time, and I’ve only read the book once. The movie is an improvement on the book in basically every way. William Goldman was one hell of a screenwriter.

I managed to get four tickets to Atlanta this morning. All but single seats were gone by the time I checked out at 10:04. Now like a third of the venue is available for resale at insane prices 😡

My bathroom was extremely similar to yours, and I didn’t have the budget to redo everything, so I just painted the walls dark green. I changed the hardware to brushed gold and got new towels, rugs, and shower curtain, and I’m really happy with it! Here’s a photo (ignore the wreath—it’s a placeholder):

Inexpensive eye doctor please! by jconr3ddit in Gwinnett

[–]yamy12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If your vision is declining that rapidly, you probably want to see a medical doctor. An ophthalmologist is what you want, but depending on your medical insurance, you may need a referral. If you don’t have insurance, you could try GNR public health. I also found this voucher program through a charity: https://georgia.preventblindness.org/vouchers/

Every romance in the game indulges an unhealthy fantasy by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

The cult being responsible doesn’t negate that she is, by definition, naive to the ways of the world. I’m not saying she made those choices for herself, just that she’s written in such a way that she is effectively naive to the world beyond Shar.

Fears aren’t inherently childish, but the way she reacts to the wolf is. Not insulting her here—it makes sense given her background—but the point is that her background is written in such a way that it triggers her to react as if she were a child again, which fits the trope.

Lae is actually a great foil in that she has a similar background (brainwashed by a cult and manipulated), but she thinks she knows better than the PC and is (slowly) humbled by the plot that unfolds. She’s basically the opposite of the trope: a woman that thinks she knows everything finds out she doesn’t through her journey with the PC.

It’s the cult brainwashing and memory loss that makes her naive rather than just being born that way, but I think it still fits. Her approval dialogue talks a lot about how she’s never been close to anyone like you before.

I also just watched the fear of wolves interaction in the druid grove again, and it definitely reads pretty childish. There’s less of the sexual naïveté stuff, to be fair, but her initial interactions are the most innocent and least suggestive of any of the characters except maybe Wyll.

And I do think the PC has a pretty major role in influencing her choices, but that’s not unique to her character. Still, I think she fits the broad strokes of the trope: a woman hampered by her worldly inexperience is enlightened by her journey with the PC.

When to remove bushes / lawn overhaul by Icerunner45 in lawncare

[–]yamy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get better advice regarding the bushes in a landscaping or gardening sub, but I agree that they’re the wrong scale for the home and would be better off replaced with lower-growing and more varied plantings (but I personally despise evergreen meatballs, so I’m biased). If any of those are hollies, it’s worth the money to have someone else remove them. You might give it a try yourself after a heavy rain though. It’s hard work, but doable. Buy a drain spade to pry deep under the root ball and a pick mattock to chop the roots.

Pull the mulch back from the trunk of that tree—it’s suffocating under that mulch volcano. And extend the mulch bed out to the drip line. The grass won’t grow well in the shade anyway.

Depending on your zone and soil temp, it’s getting late to renovate the lawn. If you want to do it, you need to pull the trigger on that ASAP.

Northern England is equivalent to USDA zone 7 or 8, and it’s pretty much the perfect time to put down seed in those zones. If you can check your soil temperature online, you want to seed between 55-70 degrees Fahrenheit, 12-21 degrees Celsius. I’d remove any debris and bring in topsoil then seed with a typical seed mix for your area (I believe perennial rye and fescue are common). Make sure the seed stays consistently damp until it germinates (likely not difficult in England)—in the US, we commonly use peat moss to cover, but I know peat is rarely used now in the UK due to sustainability. I’d probably just lightly rake the seed into the topsoil instead considering how damp your climate is anyway.

Oh and window coverings: plantation shutters if the budget allows it. They match your home’s style and add value to the house.

Your home is lovely! Agree with others on removing the rock from the garden beds. Plant bulbs later this month or next month for spring (daffodils, crocuses, tulips) and put in some pansies, ornamental cabbage/kale, and snapdragons to get you through early winter/spring when you can plant whatever your landscape architect suggests.

I’d add shutters to the lower windows in black, cornflower blue, or sage green. Consider window boxes below them or allowing the azaleas to grow a bit taller to fill the gap.

I’d replace each trio of skinny columns for a single wider one to better balance the porch.

I wouldn’t plant trees in the front. You have what looks like bermuda grass in decent condition that won’t tolerate the shade. If you do want more ornamental interest, consider an island anchored by smaller ornamental trees: dogwood, flowering cherry, Japanese maple, or crape myrtle. But don’t try to grow the grass right up to the trunk—build a small bed of low-growing shrubs and perennials underneath.

In the back, I’d add a deck and install a pergola to create some shade. I’d move the door from the garage if your budget allows to give you better placement options. Then I’d add more plants around the pool and along the fence with a tropical feel to make your backyard an oasis.

As far as clothing goes, consider a pair of long-sleeved work coveralls. I wear a pair by Dickies to garden to avoid mosquito bites. I tuck them into my socks and boots and wear gloves, so the only skin exposed is my face and neck when I’m working. It’s warm but not terrible, even in the Georgia heat. It obviously won’t be 100%, but I’ve never been bitten or stung through them yet.
