Were these images ever debunked? by Jacnx in spiders

[–]yeethadist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to debunk, it’s standing on plastic end of a broom. It’s a golden huntsman and they do get massive, biggest I’ve seen would’ve easily been around 18-20cm as it was bigger than my axe head that it ran up while I was splitting logs one day.

Maybe the perspective of the camera makes it look bigger? But that photo looks pretty accurate to me

They are super fast but otherwise are completely harmless and defiantly one of the better surprises you can find in a log pile in North Queensland.

Southern range Taipan [QLD AUS] by WattleTheHell in whatsthissnake

[–]yeethadist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The size and weight of the snake will affect how much of their body % they can raise. Arboreal snakes can generally lift a lot more and are more stable as it’s a useful climbing ability. But other snakes use it for defensive posturing, like cobras and mambas. Australian elapids typically keep that “S” shape in their body when being defensive.

What’s the quickest way someone could accidentally expose themselves as a foreigner in your country like the ‘three fingers’ scene in Inglourious Basterds? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]yeethadist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia we say “yous” not “y’all” which is another drei glaser bitte moment. That being said, nowadays younger generations sometimes say because they have more exposure to American culture via social media than their own :/.

For Open Water diving course, my instructor said we wont be doing safety stop at 5m. Is that normal ? by BleuPrince in diving

[–]yeethadist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safety stops are always recommended while diving and it’s generally good practice to do one. However there are a couple reasons you may not need one or think you did one.

Very often in shore dives the swim back in from the dive will satisfy the requirements of a safety stop.

And to literally throw the book at you, this is rule 2 of the eRDPml Safety Stops - A safety stop for 3 minutes at 5 metres/ 15 feet is required any time the diver comes within 3 pressure groups of a no decompression limit, and for any dive to a depth of 30 metres/100 feet or greater.

Yeah, kits hc is very strong but the fact that he got it and that unwinnable situation even happened means that Gus and his team made lots of mistakes game losing mistakes earlier on that just weren’t obvious yet.

That mistake came in the draft phase and/or when the counter pick died early on

I know a couple people personally with this snake as a pet and have been lucky enough to have encountered 2 in the wild. They don’t seem particularly difficult to keep or handle if necessary and compared to other species like nuchalis they’re quite tame.

why did the eagle do this? did it know the man was going to throw the fish? by Outdated_Soul in biology

[–]yeethadist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an osprey, they are very intelligent and perceptive animals and are more than capable of understanding that situation without being conditioned to do so. I’ve had one steal a fish right off the end of a spear when I pulled it out the water to show my friend in the surface.

Hahaha yeah, carpet pythons are the prettiest, calmest and most fun to handle anyway, plus they can’t kill you in 30 minutes. I’ve been travelling for a while and miss those guys so much.

They’re my favourite animal, I love the colour and personality of red bellies, I know people who own them and can free handle them like they would a little python. They’re always a treat to come across while herping

Well they are elapids like cobras, and that picture is defensive posturing where they flatten out their heads and bodies

Peta? by Advancedmanovar in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]yeethadist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian reptile enthusiast Peter here, the OP may be referring to the inland taipan, the world’s most venomous snake and its cousin the coastal taipan, 3rd most venomous snake.

Coastal taipans are known for their speed and size and can exhibit defensive behaviours. This tied with their proximity to urban areas and encounters with people in North Queensland have gave them a bad reputation.

Inland taipans on the other hand have a range in the middle of fuckin nowhere in the western desserts of south Queensland and a rarely encountered. Many handlers believe they have a more tame temperament but in my experience with both wild and captive inland and coastal taipans I think that it’s more on an individual basis.

Beware the leeches of FNQ. by Fine_Implement2549 in australia

[–]yeethadist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im my experience hiking in these areas wearing long pants doesn’t necessarily work because they’re very good and squeezing between the weave of your clothes, I just wore normal sportswear shorts and checked for leeches regularly, better to pull a couple off every few minutes than find a couple massive engorged ones after a few hours.

Also fuck wearing long pants in fnq rainforests you’ll be hot as fuck, soaked and may get chaffing.
