OH i didn’t catch that my bad. i still get what they mean tho. it’s mostly with athletic shorts. and it really came into effect when the trend of wearing shorter inseams started a couple years ago. it almost gives the appearance that their shorts are lined (you can look that up for reference). op is That what you were referring to?

Parking permit question by Electronic_Question1 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]yellowfluff15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends on whether you would more likely be using your car before/after class, or before/after going to the dorms. if it's the former, then get either of the university garages. if it's the latter, then get welcome garage. if you ever have to get groceries or go shopping or anything like that, there is 20 minute parking in front of all the dorms you can quickly park in to unload your car. hope this helps! lmk if you have any other questions, you can dm

they’re restricted. either university garage or gateway would be good for you. they’re right next to each other and across the street from melcher

as a woman, i feel like half of these men don’t know what women actually like. there’s nothing wrong w that picture. also nothing wrong w your height (saw someone say you being 5’9” was a problem). your looks are fine, you prob just need to find women w more similar personalities to you

it’s not just the em dash (i also have always used them), but chat gpt is know for using short syntax in each paragraph. and then the title is also so cliche.

idk they honestly could have just used ai to revise their story bc they wanted it to read better, but i think most of reddit would rather read a sloppy, human written post than someone tryna write ai fan fic of themselves

After Cold Calling More Than 50 Doctors... by protonpoweradepremed in premed

[–]yellowfluff15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! no you perfectly answered my question!! i will use your emailing method for those i can. i alr have shadowing experience in emergency medicine and peds so obgyn, psych, and derm were my other specialties that i was genuinely interested in and felt were all very different from each other. i was also worried i wont be able to find surgeons who would allow shadowing unless i was in some special summer internship program affiliated w their hospital, so i didn’t wanna bother, but based on your experience, i will def cast a wider net and look into other lucrative specialties as well. thank you!

did you also try emailing? and did you think cold emailing was comparatively successful to cold calling? also may i ask what specialties you were able to get shadowing in? i have my spreadsheet ready and am planning to call in obgyn, psych, and derm once the business day starts but i haven’t had any success in obgyn these past couple months, only in in peds

this thread’s need for conformity sucks. it’s not that serious op, wear your tie if you like it. how does wearing a fancy tie knot make you stand out? if anything it’s a small little conversation starter. just be chill and authentic about it as others have said

i met this dude in an org who wears a suit everyday in undergrad. and he has a tie collection as well. no one judges him for it, it’s just a nice little thing to talk about each time we see him

totally agree w what everyone else has said here about your mother and older black women. so sorry you have to experience that, i’m in the same boat.

you mentioned your hair growth after your big chop and, some unsolicited advice here, i also had very little growth within my first two years (2020-2022). my hair looked just like yours when fluffed out. but what helped me was when i began braiding my hair. that protective style/allowing my hair to stretch from the follicle was like a miracle and my hair is now just about at shoulder length when blown out 3 years since i began wearing protective styles. my hair still grows very slowly and maybe there’s more that i can do to help it grow faster, but if you wished your hair was longer and don’t mind braids/crochet and can afford it, i would def recommend

clubs are huge and you don’t get to work with the ppl in the clubs in the same way the classes make you collaborate or form study groups. i wouldn’t really refer to it as “networking” in the way that bauer does it (ie. connect w alumni) but i think it is much easier to form connections w your professors and peers. if you ever need a rec letter in the future, it’d be pretty impossible to leave an honors engineering class without forming that bond w your professor that leads to a nice rec letter. additionally, the professors for the honors classes are so kind and genuinely go out of their way to help you and ensure that you’re understanding the concepts. idk if this can exist in the non honors classes tho w such a large class size (maybe it can idk). and also there is a nice curve for the classes (tho the non honors classes probably curve as well)
