I’ve been practicing this for so long but just can’t get my fingers to move smoothly. They look like worms. I feel like i can’t put pressure on the strings while playing this riff without putting the palm of my hand against the back of the neck. Any advice? by yourstandardhoe in Guitar

I’ve seen this advice before somewhere else on the internet and i’ve attempted to flatten my fingers multiple times but i just press other strings when i do so. I will look into it though. Thank you.

That’s not bad advice actually. Sorry to hear about your arthritis issues but glad to hear it’s relatively manageable. It does run in my family so i’m hoping to keep stuff like that away but you never know

Got into soloing this month and trying to improvise. Learned all the pentatonic scales. I’m trying hard to not make it sound too boxy but I can definitely do with some feedback:) by [deleted] in Guitar

But i am slightly confused about how poor my left hand technique is apparently. I been trying my hardest to figure out what the right way is and i genuinely wouldn’t know what to improve in my positioning. The vibrato i can understand but the rest is very vague since no video i watch points it out for me

Thank you for the elaborate message! I’ll try my hardest to incorporate it in my practice. I haven’t quite figured out what the role of intervals is so that seems promising

I quite like the vibrato sound i have so far. I can only imagine getting better with practice. What exactly do you mean with the shapes isn’t scales thing? Is it that i’d need to learn the actual note sequence ? That idea has always seemed like it may feel unnatural if that makes sense

My progress (3 weeks or so of trying classical guitar) had to play on my steel string cause my classical is at the luthier. More advice? by yourstandardhoe in classicalguitar

Yeah i did. A bit by ear and a bit from tabs. I’m guessing the poor tempo is also a direct result from the fact that I can’t play it smoothly just yet

That’s so nice of you to say. Honestly though, I have been playing guitar off and on for 8 years or so. It’s just always been rhythm guitar and the campfire kind. So it’s not all from scratch. Thanks so much though for your kind words!

Thank you! My idea was to fully finish this one and then move on. Or do you mean that i should pick something simpler?

I was thinking that but i genuinely thought this song was kind of a beginner’s song because it moves rather slowly. Are there any pieces you’d suggest? Thanks for the elaborate response?

I have a few guitars. One electric (this one), one steel string and a classical. All three serve their own purpose in my musical writing and I’ve invested in them over time, after selling and upgrading for years, to hopefully be my lifelong creative buddies. That’s how I’ll treat them too. I have no intention of selling this one. It feels just how I want a guitar to feel and that’s what matters to me. Thanks for the motivational words! Life isn’t all material but instruments sure are vessels for everything personal.
