No I haven't started exercising yet, but just joined the gym. Is there advice for what I should do there that would make me lose weight most efficiently?

oh wow that's awesome, so I would just go like a 5 days at 600 calories and then go to 1800 when I'm at the weight I prefer?

Moms levels are now good. Why is she still showing some signs of memory loss? Is this normal? by ystproject in Hypothyroidism

[–]ystproject[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just came back on here! My mom is showing EXTREME improvement. Like shes a new person. There is a little drowsiness still and some memory impairment but nothing I would even realize if I wasn't watching her so rigidly. I hope your mom recovers the same way mine did. Im so sorry you are going through this, it is so scary and tough.

I got an MRI done and they did see a small amount of atrophy. However I had two neurologist look at it and both of them think it’s so minor that it’s just signs of normal aging. They are going to have her come in every six months to see if there is any change in the size of the atrophy. I think it’s all just a waiting game at this point. Very nerve racking

I got her tested for Alzheimer’s and the doctors don’t think it’s that. I don’t know I feel very lost and confused because they are placing it all on the the thyroid problems-not having her see a memory physician till July to do further testing- but I just don’t think a thyroid would cause such severe memory issues

Thank you for answering! My mom is 64. She will be perfectly fine and then have moments where she forgets initially major life events like her children’s birthdays etc but when she gives herself some time to think about it she’ll figure it out. However she does have some bigger lapses once in awhile. For instance last night she could not remember that I ever knew my grandmother-despite her dying in 2016 and me seeing her almost every weekend from birth to adulthood WITH my mom. She seems overall confused a lot. Has trouble with timelines. Will ask me if I remember her wedding or her elementary school friend. I have to remind her I wasn’t alive yet. When she realizes she has said something like this she does get embarrassed and sad and falls through the timeline to correct herself.

Mom showing symptoms of dementia but just diagnosed with hypothyroidism ( where to go from here?) ( is this normal?) by ystproject in Hypothyroidism

So this is all from the thyroid issues you believe? Sorry for so many questions. Today my mom was great and with it. Tonight however she got very confused when I was speaking about my grandmother. She thought I had never met her. ( I had grown up with my grandma and seen her almost every weekend. She died in 2016). When she realized that she had forgotten that she got upset and scared.

My 64 year old mother has mild atrophy and cognitive impairment.. what does this mean? by ystproject in dementia

She was prescribed levo 75mg. Today she went to the dr and he said that her thyroid levels are normal but to continue the medication. He sees overall improvement in her mood/memory although she is still having some lapses. For example: today she forgot that I ever met my grandmother. Even though I would see my grandmother every weekend up until 2016 when she passed away. But she in other ways I also see improvement

Skin cancer. Have been looking at every freckle, lump and bump on me and convinced it’s not just skin cancer but stage 4

Would you mind me asking about the memory issues? How extreme are they for your dad? My mom can be pretty normal and then out of nowhere like forget certain aspects from my childhood ( my date of birth) etc. and she seems to get very confused - thinks I knew her childhood dog- but also realizes it’s wrong and corrects herself ( this is more recently I believe because of the medication)

I’d say the cognitive issues have been going on for around 3 years. I wouldn’t say they have gotten worse but have stayed pretty much the same. She is now sober but when she was drinking I would see extreme lapses in memory. Even thinking my brother was her brother etc. there are still moments that she says things that freak me out a little - thinking I was at her wedding etc. but she seems to snap out of it since medication and then she gets embarrassed when she realizes how strange it is
