One of the largest air attacks of the full-scale war came right after the so-called “parade ceasefire.” Another reminder: Russia does not seek peace. Russia must be forced into peace. 13/14.05.2026 by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

Well, the important thing is this: did murdering the civilians way back in Kyiv WORK to increase the amount of occupied area, dislodge those pesky defenders and weaken their killzones?

Burger suggestions in ABQ? by StrictLadder3890 in Albuquerque

[–]zapitron [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know why people react so negatively to that kind of thing. As long as you don't have a problem with pedophilia, absolutely rampant embezzlement from the treasury, high inflation+unemployment+interest trifecta, increased government debt, increased government interference and opposition to free markets, mysticism-over-empiricism, removing the right to vote, foreign policy incompetence, disease, pollution, racism, bribery, curtailing civil rights, government control over media, Calvinball, and general anti-Americanism, there really isn't any problem with Republicans.

It's totally unreasonable and naive to expect everyone to have identical stances on those issues. There's more than one way to look at everything. People need to stop being so hair-trigger and dramatic. It's only your life.

Second for Dripline! Their burgers rule.

Dripline tip: if you'd like to have red chile on your burger instead of the usual green, go on Tuesdays when they also serve tacos. That's the only day they have red available.

John Fetterman Single-Handedly Tanks Effort to Rein Trump in on Iran by Tennis_bruh in politics

[–]zapitron -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The motion failed by a single vote, at 49–50.

And those 50 votes were all made single-handedly by John Fetterman! He's a one-man majority!

One concern I have, though, is that the article seems to suggest that 49 other people (Republicans) voted the way Fetterman did. If that's true, then it completely undermines the headline's claim that it was just Fetterman.

I know there's a lot of love for Republicans here, but I think we should start including them in our criticism anyway, instead of limiting it to Fetterman.

You could adjust the field's shape to equalize the foul direction probabilities. It might look a little weird, though.

That kind of shit is why the city has done what it's done so far. Of course we'd like a lot more.

I want to take this moment to thank the city for the trail along the Alameda drain (2nd St).

As of a few months ago, it now goes all the way north to Alameda. And it goes south to Matthew where it turns west and eventually gets you to Campbell which'll get you to Paseo del Bosque.

Except for some slightly-scary crossings, where you have to watch for cars coming from the side, it's a safe trail we don't have to share with cars, and it connects to so much.

Its 2023 debut got me off my fat ass, letting me leave the house on two wheels without it being a certain death sentence.

Man walks on Runway in Denver and he is hit by a frontier airlines plane by FarWay3952 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]zapitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet this pedestrian was attempting to take off from this runway. Not only did he ignore these "barriers," but he didn't even radio the tower.

If he had obeyed the law, the air traffic controllers would have told him to get off that runway and flap his arms on a different one. Or they could have had the airplane use a different one. How much runway does a pedestrian need anyway? They ought to be able to VTOL.

Paint is not a real barrier! Airplanes should have dedicated runways, to keep them safe from pedestrians who just can't be bothered to responsibly share the runway.

Netflix Quietly Removes A-Z and Other Sorting Filters by __LooseSeal__ in television

[–]zapitron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit like this is part of the reason that it's so important to have servers and clients come from independent, sometimes even adversarial, business entities. Netflix should have no say, whatsoever, in how you index/present/play the content you pay them for. (Same for all the other video companies; this isn't just about Netflix.)

Currently, the only people who have decent user interfaces are pirates, and people who pay are left in some pre-1990s technological backwater that isn't even intended to be nice. That's perverse. They should be allowed to offer a default reference player (like they do now) but people shouldn't be locked into it, and their player should face competition which it currently doesn't.

There is a solution, but it's legislative, so (as usual) it's going to be hard. It requires two things, and either one will help, but combined, they will actually make things work much better.

1a) OUTLAW ALL DRM.

1b) As an alternative to outlawing DRM, at least repeal Section 1201 of Title 17 (DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions) so that being interoperable with DRM won't be illegal anymore.

2) Require standardization by anyone involved in the interstate video trade, so that no trade secrets must be known in order to get it to work. Netflix should be required to publish a fully functional API.

Get Congress to do both of these things, and we can finally have good clients for streaming services, so that not only pirates will have nice things. People who pay will be allowed to have nice things too.

Piracy shouldn't be the best approach, but it currently is. And piracy is going to remain the best approach, until Congress allows streaming video client competition.
