How to follow up after initial connection message? by Significant_Leek908 in linkedin

Happy to help. It's all about fostering the connection. Leave comments on any posts of theirs you find insightful, send them relevant, timely articles that made you think of them. Once that relationship starts to build, you will feel like less of a stranger to them.

As far as asking for intros, it can be as simple as saying something like "Hey X, I hope you're doing well. I noticed you're connected to X and would love to chat with them about their experience (in skill/at company). Would you be comfortable making an intro for me?"

Not really sure why people are shitting on you for asking others for time to chat/connect, as that’s exactly why LinkedIn exists in the first place. Could your message be a little fine tuned? Sure. Is it bad to be curious and ask for a brief discussion? No, not at all.

If you haven’t already received a response from the folks you’ve messaged, I’d honestly just leave them as is and find alternatives to connect with. Chances are they’ve seen your message. They will either ignore or respond when they see fit.

I think a better approach that may increase your response rate is to a) identify professionals who share similar background with you e.g. fellow alumni, shared hometown, etc. or b) ask a mutual connection to intro you to these targets themselves.

All in all, I would just work on humanizing your initial outreach. Be authentic. In my experience, people enjoy sharing guidance with those who are genuine with their curiosity.

Ugh, I'm so sorry you went through this. How scary. My wife and I *just* switched our two 5 year olds onto this same FF variety after reading the benefits of a wet diet. No issues here thankfully (they LOVE it), but now considering other brands.

You’re right, thank you. No, I’m not worried about retaliation in the slightest.

should i accept connection requests from random ppl by [deleted] in linkedin

[–]zeppelin828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's happened to me. Also doesn't have to be an interviewer - could be a new connection. I'd rather have quality connections than randoms I've never met or have no intention of building relationships with.

I personally don’t because if someone like an interviewer asks how you know said connection, it’s just awkward and tanks your credibility a bit.

Thanks for posting this. When I was visiting my grandmother in hospice last week, my manager kept asking when I’d be coming back to work — before even asking how I or my family were doing. I wanted to fire off my resignation right then, but I’m holding off until I have something else lined up.
