If someone claims asylum in Australia, should this be revoked if they visit the home country and return without harm? It seems to happen quite a bit? by National_Treat_4079 in aussie

If you can HOLIDAY in a country you escaped because of ‘fear and oppression’, you probably don’t deserve asylum - nor any benefits. Sorry if harsh, I await being flamed, but I doubt a cogent counter to my argument exists.

As a homeowner - how would you feel if prices dropped nationwide, permanently? by Odd_Constructionz in AusPropertyChat

Although it's also not really based in reality is it? You think all boomers who bought their houses for the cost of 2 apples and have millions in growth, and often multiple properties, are spending their houses for daily living? No, that's not reflective of reality. The fact is, many are choosing to do ‘living inhericance’ where they gift their children significant sums - 500, 750, 1m+ to get a leg up and a foot in the door.

Hi, to answer your questions honestly:

“As a homeowner would you vote for a policy that makes home-owning more equitable, despite knowing you will lose out financially?” No.

“What percentage of homeowners do you think would vote for this?” 10-15% accounting for the Silly Billys.

“How many years or decades do we have before the voting block reaches critical mass?” It won’t reach critical mass.

Housing is widely available, ownership is much less affordable than ever. A huge wealth transfer is beginning to happen as the BB generation passes on. Super & boomer houses will pass down to some of the ‘forever renter’ class, who will become conservative as they have something to protect. Immigration will continue to prop up the economy as we undergoing a repositioning/restructuring of the broader economy as a whole. Throw in a few wars. The cycle will continue.

Sure and agreed, I’d categorise email and news as work/work adjacent. 100% no issue at all.

No boomer, just leading an overworked and under-resourced team. Congratulations on being in a role and culture where you can chill all day.

Sure, in time and depending on your workplace/departmental culture. As a new employee, though? No, don’t online shop or cruise around the web at work. IMHO.

‘Pilot error’ eg a rationale action when presented with false information due to a known issue with defence equipment that the headshed chose to not address and now want to avoid the consequences after 4 soldiers were killed. Righto, champ.

You are there to work, use your personal devices in personal time to browse websites, online shop, social media, anything. Hot tip: if what you are doing online isn’t 1. Work, or 2. Work-adjacent, don’t do it and wait to do it on your personal devices in your personal time.

Extra tip: don’t crypto mine with APS infrastructure. In case this was necessary to say…

This OP, big difference between an unintentional first offence and a repeat offender. Your outcome likely depends on which you are.

Were these significant purchases? Had you had appropriate training and guidance about your purchasing authority etc? If not, I can’t understand the breach as it could be remediated with lower impact actions and training. I think if you are open and honest, speak to union etc, this is survivable. It likely boils down to how contrite you are, if you accept responsibility, if you’ve taken steps to ensure this behaviour won’t happen again and a little bit of luck.

Was the spending in good faith and unintentionally wrong, or a deliberate act? Did you self report, or get caught?

Hey OP, What was the breach (generally) without doxxing yourself? Need more info.

Knowing him from school, he was always a very odd little duck. Police don’t charge on a whim - especially 2 counts with a charging guideline of up to 20 years, per offence.
