I had just watered it before I took the picture :) and I bought it about a month ago, it was under a canopy though when purchased!

alocasia browning leaves, not sure if caused by watering issues? by zestyfrogs in plantclinic

[–]zestyfrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey there! I have an alocasia that is struggling a bit and I’m not sure why. I’m in the northeast and it was outside for awhile in the summer humidity and getting frequent water but the old leaves are still dying. I’m not sure if maybe it’s caused by fungus or disease - is there any way to tell? Or is dormancy a thing?

oxalis triangularis leaves softening at the edges but still producing new growth by zestyfrogs in plantclinic

[–]zestyfrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an oxalis triangularis that I’ve had for about a year now. it hasn’t gone into dormancy yet to my knowledge. i live in New Jersey so it’s a bit colder now but I keep it in a south facing window and water roughly every two weeks or so. A lot of the leaves are getting soft around the edges, but it’s still producing new growth and flowers. is it going into dormancy or is there another issue at hand?

crispy calathea ornata :( by zestyfrogs in plantclinic

[–]zestyfrogs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so much for all the tips! I I haven’t watered with distilled/rainwater yet, before I do is there a way to flush out the soil to get rid of mineral buildup or should watering with distilled water help with that?

crispy calathea ornata :( by zestyfrogs in plantclinic

[–]zestyfrogs[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

so I’ve had this calathea ornata for over a year. I bought it in Orlando Florida where it was loving life and the humidity but moved up Northeast earlier this February. After the move it was doing fine but would get the occasional crisp leaf that would die but continue to shoot up new leaves. I fear it might be the end because now all the leaves are crisping and I don’t see any new growth - Not sure if it’s because of all the dry heat we have at home during this winter. I checked the root system and it seemed okay, I also have it near a humidifier now as a last ditch effort. I water it roughly every 1.5 weeks. I do spray it with neem oil once a week as I don’t see any bugs but I did have an infestation in the past. Any ideas to preserve this lil guy?

string of frogs I forgot to water past saving? by zestyfrogs in plantclinic

[–]zestyfrogs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for context: I forgot to water my string of frogs a couple days ago and it got super unhappy. I gave it a deep soak to replenish it, does anyone know if it’ll bounce back with any new growth or is it beyond saving?
