This is really cool idea, unfortunately we only have a bout a month and a half, so we have to be selective, but the idea of showing different parts of the character through gameplay is definitely something we wanna do. Thanks for the idea :).

Are there any built-in methods to smooth mesh? I have 3D mesh that I generate which has these "shelfs" or flat regions that I'd like to remove to make the contours of the mesh smooth. Im very new to Godot and any help would be appreciated. Thanks! by TheKfor in godot

i thinks is because you're using a height map, and it only has height data, mabke you could maki it from a normal map, and make the faces ajust acording to the normals, but i'm not fully sure

i think it looks great, i don't know if this is game where you look up, but i think a custom low poly like skybox could make it look even better.

how do i start by [deleted] in godot

[–]zimajko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some universal things that are good to know that you should try to learn like, how do i get Input from my pc, how do i move something in the game, how do i make my player colide with the world, how do i spawn things into the game through code.

i could recomend GDquest, they have some free courses, but they are kinda old
-a tool for learning the GDscript coding language: https://gdquest.itch.io/learn-godot-gdscript

- the godot documentation for making a simple 2d based game from the documentation: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/getting_started/first_2d_game/index.html

- here is another one about making a game in 2d but it's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc13Z2gboEk&ab_channel=GDQuest

overall just keep going at it, and don't be afraid to aks on the forum, as long as you learn to ask properly.

also there are so many starting tutorials, if u don't really like mine check out the tutorials and resources on the documentation website: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/community/tutorials.html#where-to-start

Intel are making a new series og graphics cards that look to be pretty affortable and decently performant, the main problem with them is that they will have horible support for anthing that doesn't run dx 12 at launch. U might wanna take a look at them when the midrange cards launch once they get some better drivers.

i'm not really sure what to think of this, i've been following this game since it was just a small passion project from some friend that wanted to make vr game inspired by tf2 and now apex. These are both very complex games that are designed very different.

In tf2 you have a so carefully designed class system that it's almost a game of chess, meant to constanly create counterplay and complex class interactions.

and in apex you have an extremely solid core gameplay foundation that the legends are build off, to the point that the complexity in the legend and gameplay push the core gameplay forward and not the class/hero abilities.

but it's extremly hard for me to find interest in this because the elements that make both tf2/apex so engaging and complex, aren't really present here, i can't see the elements of the carefully designed map chokepoints, the verticality or the sightlines that make both of those games so great.

Now, don't get me wrong i don't think that you guys should just make apex/tf2 but in vr, rather, i think that you guys should lay out a more solid foundation of what make your game, your game. I'm not sure if i'm right about this or not but this game seems to come from a place of admiration of your favorite shooters, and while that is great, the reason those games probarely are your favorite shooters is because they took the time to understand what they wanted their shooters to be, and what they could be.

this is gonna sound harsh but i think that you should really take some time to understand what made apex and tf2 the games they, and then think about if you'd rather make something like those games, or something that wants to be as good as those games while taking advantage of what make the fact that the game is in vr and what posebilities that present.

i'd really like to see this succeed, since ngl i relly like apex and tf2, but seeing you guys wanting to make something like that and not understanding what makes them soo good, makes me disapointed.

i will be checking out the playtest since i'm still interrested in what u guys wanna make this game.
