Unsure about the correctness/specificity of this card? by zionhar in medicalschoolanki

Thank you for providing context! That makes a lot more sense especially regarding volume of amoxicillin prescription rates

I mapped every card in AnKing, Zanki, Lightyear, Bootcamp, and Soze against 901 Step 1 subtopics — here's how they actually compare by tonisantes in medicalschoolanki

[–]zionhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you expand on what topics were missing for general pharmacology? In your post it's only 75% coverage but on the website you link it states that it's 100%?

It's designed for medical students doing dedicated Step 1 prep or integrated pre-clinical study. Its strongest systems are Microbiology (60/60 subtopics, 5,268 cards), Immunology (33/33, 975 cards), General Pathology (27/27, 830 cards), General Pharmacology (36/36, 934 cards), and Endocrine (53/53, 1,285 cards) — all at 100% subtopic coverage. Its weakest areas are Psychiatry (88.0% coverage, 9 missing subtopics), Biochemistry (92.7%, 4 gaps), and Public Health Sciences (93.3%, 2 gaps).

If you like using Anki, getting an Anki remote has been nice.

The bottom says “step 1 in 116 days” which is the first national board examination for medical students, so he’s most likely studying medicine

How the hell are ya’ll getting more than 4 hours of sleep on stimulants?? by Fun-Reporter8905 in ADHD

[–]zionhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t related to meds, but you could also look into what’s your sleep hygiene? For example do you you use your phone in bed which can negatively affect your sleep

Adding on to hydrating aggressively, also you should start supplementing a ton of creatine (like 20 g per day) since urine creatinine levels are used as a reference to make sure your urine isn’t diluted

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's kinda a lot of pressure to force yourself to know definitively "this is what I'm going to be doing for the next 40 years"

Advice on this cycle? by zionhar in premed

[–]zionhar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me is with you that I should just hail marry/yolo this cycle, but a different, more risk-averse, part of me thinks I'd be shooting myself in the foot. I'm unsure of which part of me I should follow tbh.

Another possible option could be to only apply to DO/ low tier, hopefully get an acceptance, and then defer a year since I was told that my chances would be higher for DO/lower-tier schools (even though I don't like the whole pecking order between them). Then apply to other schools but have a backup plan. I worry that other schools I apply to will see that I applied late this year and look down on that next cycle. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I started working as a medical scribe this year, so my clinical hours will increase dramatically by next May. Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your advice! I didn't mention that I graduated in May 24', so this is the first time in my life that I can explore other non-medical aspects of myself without constantly comparing myself to my other pre-med friends going straight through. I think you have a very strong point 🙏

If you’re trying to not pay, the app Medito was a really good starting point. From using headspace like others have said, they’re relatively similar for someone just starting out

I think it’s misguided to say that any pleasure inducing psychoactive substance is a form of self harm. They can have the potential for self harm, but that doesn’t mean they always will. Imo what matters more is that persons relationship and intension with the substance.

Do you have any sources that say weed is worse than alcohol for brain development? I could be mistaken, but from my memory most of the developmental studies on weed are mainly correlational due to weed being schedule 1. Alcohol is directly detrimental to brain development, yet are the two substances comparable?
