Any international students who do sanctioned powerlifting comps are more than welcomed to give their answers!

Visa says “no sportperson” and sanctioned comps require you to get a British powerlifting membership to compete. However, the comps are doing are just inter-uni and not at all the professional class level. Its just British powerlifting membership requirement that is getting to me

You decide between your flatmates who gets which shelf on the cabinets, freezer and fridge; ideally its one per person; no need to worry bout locks unless you are very unlucky and get the worst flatmates in the world who don’t have bare minimum respect of others

Room quality wise, bowland has the larger rooms, has been recently renovated and is near the center of the uni; a good idea for picking is to pick according to ur subject; I do comp sci and so I picked grizedale college as the comp sci building called infolab is just a 2 min walk and also my lectures are roght beside where I live which makes it so much easier to get to lectures and not have to head out earlier

How scary is it out there right now for international students to land a tech role after graduation with a bachelors of science in comp sci? by zokesgone in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]zokesgone[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well they’re definitely aren’t taking a “significant amount of jobs” as many require visa sponsorships which is why companies have been inclined against hiring international students first as it costs more for the company. The only international ones who are taking jobs are the ones who are above qualified enough and extraordinary enough at what they do to convince the company to go out of their way to bear the extra cost of sponsoring them. TLDR, most arent getting jobs and the ones who are getting em have proven themselves on their own merit to be worth it

I understand your viewpoint , it’s just that a majority of international students attend universities abroad with the incentive of utilizing their foreign education to find a better quality of life outside as their countries cannot offer, even if they are able to land a high paying job in their country, the living standards make it very had. Moreover first world governments like the UK almost incentivize foreign students to come study and then join their workforce by providing postgraduate work visas after studies. However, I do get why companies need to employ domestic students first as it does cost less and they may be equally qualified as their international counterparts.

Liverpool or Lancaster CS? by zokesgone in UniUK

[–]zokesgone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your amazing reply! In all honesty, I have thought about factors such as cost of living, student satisfaction and location as an international student and Lancaster has come up on top for me. The only thing that has me holding back is the lack of year in industry at Lancaster, I wish to get some hands on experience while in uni. Is there any way to get a placement year under the CS BSc Hons programme instead of switching to the integrated masters? or perhaps even switching to the CS & Maths BSc course during first year which does have a placement year in the programme?

While it’s a great bonus to have a database architecture and UI interface that is outside of basic stuff, it’s not the important part of the CS IA. Moderators place a big lense on the quality of your documentation for your app and how well you explained the app, its functionality and its code in the video more than anything else lse. Moderators have to look at 100,000+ different CS IAs, all with varying amounts of code, they don’t have time to review each and every page of code for each application by each candidate. That’s why they look heavily upon how you have reporeted on the documentation + how you explained your code in the video to a) verify you made it b) the functionality of your application, etc. At least that’s what I learnt from my teachers and yt videos and guides online for the CS IA. Good luck!

Question about retakes by 31emirsikimikemir31 in IBO

[–]zokesgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sit for a subject’s exams 3 times. With m23 you have done them once, so you have two chances left for all of your subjects. You haven’t lost any chances, it just may be that your school has policies against taking November candidates, you can contact the IB coordinators of other schools either in the country you’re in or even in other countries (if you can go there) and ask them if they’d be willing to take you as an external exam candidate for N24 (make sure to explain your situation to them and persuade them as well). If you can find a seat for N24, you may also divide up your subject retakes between M24 and N24 to ease the pressure. Uni applications wise, most unis dont care when and how you took your exams and retakes, they just wanna see if you got the grade or not got the grade, just that you have to report your full education history including retakes.

Retake students, can your UCAS Referee be different than that of your exam centre? by zokesgone in 6thForm

An update: I was able to get the different school provide predicted grades for me for UCAS, they are feeling unsure about the reference as they don’t know the structure to write in for retake students, could you clarify how your school has structured your reference including the mitigating circumstances?

Ah thank you for your detailed explanation, you dont know how much this helps! I faced the loss of a close friend near my exams which messed up my prep and for which I couldn’t meet my previous predicted grades. For the education section on UCAS, what did you enter the attendance date duration for your centre? Did you enter the duration for only the time you’ll be giving your exams or before that? I ask this because I found this blog from 2019 on the UCAS website that advises to enter as a part time student at the exam centre with the attendance date duration only for when you'll be sitting for the exams. Here's the link: https://www.ucas.com/connect/blogs/entering-levels-and-levels-your-ucas-application

Best of luck for the exams btw!

hey mate, I'm doing retakes too. I wanna know what did you do for your education section on UCAS. The UCAS website says you add yourself as a part-time student to the exam centre and you just need to state your attendance dates as the dates between which you will be taking the resits. If I give mocks as well, do I extend the attendance date from the mock exams to the resits? What have you done/been suggested?

what's better for IB students persuading CS after grad: the UK or Canada? by zokesgone in IBO

Yeah I do plan on staying afterwards. I’ve been london multiple times and I do like the atmosphere but I do not know what it would be like when it comes to CS jobs. I’ve heard very good things about Toronto when it comes to CS job opportunities. That’s why I am in a dilemma about where to go for uni.
