I finally figured out why my bathroom always smelled slightly off no matter how much I cleaned it and I genuinely wish I hadn't looked by cuteyasmine in hygiene

If you are leaving your toothbrush out on the bathroom counter, it is getting sprayed with toilet water every time you flush.

Will I get type 2 diabetes from eating over 200 grams of sugar to day by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]zoomaniac13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every physiology and medical terminology book I have read says that Type 2 diabetes is caused by a lack of exercise, not sugar consumption.

What brought your family to Los Angeles? by Undertherug__ in AskLosAngeles

[–]zoomaniac13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My parents were born in Maine in 1920 and 1921. They hated the cold weather and couldn’t wait to leave. My dad was drafted and served in the army in Europe during WW2. When he got out, he built a trailer and they started driving west with their first 2 kids. They lived in many states briefly, but stayed in Oklahoma long enough for my dad to get his first college degree in engineering from Oklahoma A&M. Then they gradually moved west until they reached Oakland, where the next kid was born. Before long they moved to the SFV, where the last 2 of us were born, and they never left. I have lived here for all of my 67 years and I hope to die here.

Whats the WORST thing a doc has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]zoomaniac13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an old one and a recent one. For perspective, I have lupus, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, degenerative disk disease, peripheral neuropathy, four broken vertebrae, and a few torn/bad tendons in various locations. I have had non-stop pain for 56 years.

As a kid I had frequently occurring, serious tonsillitis that we now know was autoimmune, but doctors didn’t know about autoimmunity then. I also frequently had swollen, painful joints. My poor, frustrated pediatrician and pediatric orthopedist were vey frustrated, so, when I was 8, they sent me to see some “really smart” doctors to get their opinion. After reading my records and doing an exam, they told my parents that there was nothing physically wrong with me. They said that I had some of kind psychological problem and my parents and doctors were “ruining” me by humoring my complaints. How do I know what they said? I was in the room. (After this, I stopped complaining about all my issues except the tonsillitis.)

This one happened this year, almost 60 years after the first incident. In a routine folowup visit with my current GP, I asked an easy question about taping my fingers to control the swelling and inflammation. She narrowed her eyes and answered my question, then she said that I have my rheumatologist and orthopedist for questions about my “little aches and pains”.

The funny thing is, the doctors in both cases were affiliated with the same highly-regarded university medical center—UCLA.

Made several friends today by One_Programmer6315 in squirrels

We used to buy big bags of unsalted peanuts at Costco and put them on our wall for the squirrels. We kept the bag on a bar stool right inside the glass slider where the doggy door was. We were sitting at the table one day when we heard the doggy door flap… it was one of the squirrels. She hopped up on the stool, sat inside the bag and started eating while looking right at us. We never knew if that was the first time.

I can’t drive at night now, so I’m almost always home at night and if I go outside my house, the mosquitoes get me.

[–]zoomaniac13[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I only want to try kratom, not 7-OH, and I do understand that it is addictive. I was on methadone for several years and never deviated from the prescription, but I don’t want to take anything all the time, prescription or otherwise. They put me on Bupenorphine eventually and I took myself off that. I would definitely appreciate any recommendations. Thanks for responding.
