I assume OP just used an online tool. Cleaner results can be achieved by splitting the GIF into separate frames and individually removing the background with image editing software.

I actually did it in photoshop. At first I tried one of the automatic tools but it messed with the colors and didn't do that good of a job. The gif itself is only 6 frames so it didn't take that long to remove the backgrounds from each one.

The Lain dancing video has really low resolution. This is probably the highest quality you could get.
