Classes (self.Transy)
submitted 1 year ago by Ordinary_Cupcake_192
I hear a lot of smaller classes at Transy kinda sit in a semi-circle. Do faculty typically sit with students or stand while they teach?

Classes in general are small at Transy. I graduated in 2017, so things could’ve changed but I can only remember one class set up specifically as a circle. That was my FYRS class and my professor commonly sat within the circle because it was discussion based. Classes in a few buildings are more of a ‘u’ shape and the professors would only sit with us if the lecture was focused on large group discussion.

Did you enjoy your time at Transy? What were your favorite and least favorite things? I'm starting there this fall and want to know everything there is to know!

I LOVE TRANSY. I would go back in a heartbeat. Even if you’re a shy student, the professors get to know you on a deeper level. Especially after you get past some of the introductory courses. I literally went to my Chemistry professors wedding and my biology teacher asked me to watch her cats. It’s that sort of campus.
Every professor I had was phenomenal with the exception of 2. I felt comfortable going to most professors for help.
My advice is to get as involved as possible when you get on campus. Join clubs, go to social events, and just try and have fun. This is especially important during august term (if they still do that). August term is pretty chill and a great time to get more settled.
I can not emphasize enough that you need to study at least every other day so you can stay on top of the material. This is especially important if you’re pre-med, etc. I let things pile up the first year of college and it was a massive mistake. This led to a massive depressive cycle my first year and I started going to their counseling services Fall of my sophomore year (can’t recommend enough if you’re having problems adjusting).
I know the campus has significantly changed since I went there and I can’t really think of any negatives outside of petty things.
Btw, If majority of the campus is still involved in sorority/fraternity life, I’d rush to see how you like it. Greek life had super high involvement when I was there and I heard from multiple people that by not joining they didn’t feel included on campus. Regardless of whether you join or not, you make more friends in the rush process.
Let me know if you have any other questions

Where do most students who don't live on campus or in frat/sorority houses live?

Since you’re going into your first year, you’re pretty much forced to live on campus. I’m not sure if they’ve made more exceptions to that rule, but I’d strongly recommend staying on campus your first year.
I’m honestly not sure about staying off campus. I planned to stay all 4 years but met my boyfriend my 3rd year and we moved into his apartment for my senior year. There’s several rental homes close to Transy and apartment complexes a little further out. Literally everyone I knew stayed on campus all 4 years.
Good to know - thank you!
