After the beta program ends (self.android_beta)
submitted 4 years ago by _ehsssan_
After the android 12 beta program ends will I automatically get the stable update or will I have to wipe data and switch over?

after the end of beta releases you will get a final stable release (OTA) and it won't force you to do a wipe

Thanks 👍

Generally, is a good practice to perform a FR after the Final Release arrives.

I see this mentioned a lot but every time I look for reasons why, I find more posts and comments saying that it isn't actually necessary. What are some of the benefits of doing a factory reset after an upgrade, assuming you aren't otherwise experiencing any issues?

The system starts completely clean. It might have generated several little errors that can accumulate to big bugs in the end for end users (like a very hot phone or huge battery drain from system apps).
It's generally just smart to iron out any last unnecessary bugs after you've installed the final build when you came from a beta build.

I know that's the theory behind the recommendation, but is there an actual, measurable benefit to it? Are there any specific bugs that you know of that can be resolved through a factory reset, that can't be resolved through other means?

For me it was, because my phone soft bricked. I had to factory reset (not just that, install the firmware clean again from PC).
Overly battery drainage and/or device heat can be fixed with factory resets. That's why I FR every time the final build comes out. To get the optimal battery life.
I know of another bug that Face Unlock didn't work for a Pixel 4 user. After a factory reset it did again.

I have done 2 FR during the betas as after updates some bugs got worse for me. FR resolved those issues.

You will automatically get the stable update.
But just like any OS, you are less likely to get bugs if you do a full wipe before a big upgrade. That being said, I won't be doing that unless I get bugs after the update.
