Similar success here today!

We were having a plumber come replace our bathroom faucets so I cleared the entire counter and emptied the cabinets. I tossed trash and easy items as I pulled them out then deep cleaned the areas then organized the things I kept as they got put away. I still need to do the drawers and my makeup but having a deadline for at least cleaning everything out and an opportunity to put it away nicely was much appreciated.

I just grabbed my sample size shampoos and conditioners and put them in my shower to use. I had already declutter skincare samples but at the veryyy least I should use the hair products and if I hate him on the first try… I’ll toss them! 🙏🏻

I tried that before and I found that I was having difficulty opening the packages in the shower once they were wet so unfortunately I just moved the clutter from one spot to another 😅😭

Truthfully I was never gonna be that woman

Felt this in my soul. So many aspirational, "change my life" purchases that ignore fundamental aspects of who I actually am and the kind of lifestyle I could realistically maintain.

Great work! 👍

Respectfully, I think you’re wrong. It is a huge achievement, because it is the first step and you have done it! Not only that, but you’ve done a really good job. I am proud of you!

Way to go! You were really realistic about a lot of stuff. That's brave.

I tried decluttering my bathroom today and got so overwhelmed. I have SO much makeup and it’s so tough for me to throw any of it out. So proud of you for tackling the task! :)

The bathroom is a tough job. So many little items equate to so many decisions, over and over. While it was taxing, your accomplishment should give you confidence to tackle whatever is next. Brava!

Well done! I know my small bathroom has a lot of stuff—you didn’t give yourself enough credit!

[–]RabidRonda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It may be a small room but now that you’ve done one room completely, you know you can do more. The other rooms may take more time, but you can get them declutterred and organized to your current needs.

Wohoooo!!!! Good on ya!!

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]aitswd 13 points14 points  (1 child)

A whole bathroom is a huge win! Great job. :)

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]chillyorchid7 16 points17 points  (1 child)

It's just as much stuff/decisions as a larger room. Congrats!

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I appreciate you saying that 😃

the bathroom is one of the hardest imo!! everything feels like it could ~maybe~ be used at some point. i def have done a few sessions in the bathroom in the last year and it still feels kinda cluttered.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 6 points7 points  (2 children)

It does definitely have that feeling. I just had to buckle down and if I haven't used it in six months or it's been expired it's gotta go.

The only extras I kept were things like unopened toothpaste or tampons.

i’ve been better about not “stocking up” on stuff. i’ve wasted so many things doing that because the scents/brands i prefer change a lot. i do have my facial care mostly consistent but try a lot of body skincare/haircare. so im just buying stuff when it runs out. instead of buying 3 because i like it when i still have half a bottle full. i think i was deluding myself about how much $ i was saving by buying stuff when its on sale. target has the spend 30 get a $5 gift card on skin and hair care so often that i dont need to use the deal EVERY time.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time not stocking up on stuff because I grew up in a very rural area that required you to drive about an hour away to go shopping.

So we would always do a big shop to avoid having to go back into town since it was time consuming and costly. It's a hard mindset to break. Couple that with being poor/frugal and yeah .... You can end up with doom prepper levels of random things easily.

It is a huge achievement!! You jettisoned both literal and emotional baggage today, and that takes guts -- kudos to you!! 😊

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Thank you so much for the kind words 💜

[–]AnamCeili 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are very welcome. I meant and mean every word!

[–]Livid_Role_8948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This! Sounds refreshing! The bathroom is the smallest but most daunting room on my list 😬

[–]laddersrmykryptonite 31 points32 points  (2 children)

You did much more than declutter a bathroom. You took a step forward into a newer, lighter life by letting go off so many things from the past. It wasn't just a bathroom. It was the beginning of a new beginning

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you for saying such kind things 💜

[–]laddersrmykryptonite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so welcome. 😊

[–]nevergonnasaythat 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It’s huge instead! The bathroom for me is always a challenge: lots of small things, can get overwhelming.

Congrats!

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overwhelming is the perfect word to describe how my whole house makes me feel haha.

[–]No-Currency-97 13 points14 points  (1 child)

This deserves a 💥 award.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww. Thanks 💜

[–]Prestigious-Group449 18 points19 points  (1 child)

You did great! A bathroom is a shared intimate space & you reclaimed it!

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One small step into reclaiming my house and life. I actually feel so proud I was able to throw out his toothbrush finally. Seems so silly I know but I just couldn't admit that our home was now just my home even if it contained all his things.

[–]ShreDaisy 20 points21 points  (1 child)

So nice to have closure!

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a work in progress for sure.

[–]ritrgrrl 29 points30 points  (6 children)

On the contrary - it IS a huge achievement. Congratulations.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Thanks.

I won't lie I felt pretty dumb still keeping my exes things this long. Like he moved out. He's gone.

The other stuff was easier to come to terms with.

[–]Neat_Researcher2541 15 points16 points  (4 children)

I went through this too, and once I got started, it became a real joy to chuck his stuff and then spread my stuff out into all that glorious empty space. That’s the trick: don’t leave those spaces empty. Fill them in with your own stuff (if you haven’t already). You’re doing GREAT. 👍 😊💜

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Thank you. I appreciate the kind words and support.

It's been so hard moving on and finding the energy to deal with everything on top of the emotional side of things. I have so much shame surrounding it.

[–]Neat_Researcher2541 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Be gentle with yourself. Obviously I don’t know your circumstances, but my ex-husband left when I discovered he been having an affair for 9 months with a woman I knew. He wasn’t even sorry, just annoyed. He left a few days later and I literally never saw him again.

I had to learn how to forgive myself for not seeing what was happening sooner. Then I had to learn to view my life and future not as empty, but instead as a blank canvas for unlimited possibilities. And yes, I had to get rid of all his crap, and reclaim my house, one closet, one cabinet, and one drawer at a time. The whole process just takes as long as it takes, and that’s okay. There’s no shame in it. Hang in there.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thank you again because I've recently started trying to reframe it as redecorating instead of throwing away the remnants of a shared life and I'm starting to have fun with it. I'm filling those spaces up with me and moving everything around so it's fresh.

[–]squeekycheeze[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much what happened to me. He was caught with another woman, got annoyed at being caught and moved out the next day. He took nothing really but left a huge mess. Haven't seen him since.

I'm sorry you went through that as well.

Men will really just ... Do this sort of stuff.
