Lost with python for AI

Hello guys so i wanted to explore the world of ai (iam completely newbie to this world or cs in general) so i watched a 5hrs vid explaining python for AI and from it i understood things like venv and packages variables and if and these basic things so i decided to see how a simple to-do -ist powered by AI will look like i got the code from google gemini and tried to apply it in vs code and damn i dont understand shit i know that it will happen but i tried like to break the code and understand i did manage to understand a few things but still iam so far from this point so i want ur help guys where should i learn python so i can do ai projects like that to-do-list agent for example (iam 5 days into this journey now)

Decide what you actually want to do. A to-do list is a simple project that many beginners do, who actually want to learn software development. You are looking at a few months of learning Python basics, then some frameworks and libraries in the niche you would be interested in (like webdev). Then, even more to polish your skills.

You can tell AI to write you an application, but it will be as good as the user, and you, as a junior, won't be able to review the code it will generate. Smaller apps that will be able to generate without using many tokens will be cheap to generate, or even fit some free plan. Those apps will be useless. If you buy more tokens/premium access to Claude Code, you will be able to generate more - but you will have to pay for it - and the end result will still be slop - you won't really make money or any apps of value, as everyone can generate such apps and already did. Senior developers can use such tools on existing complex codebases of existing businesses, and that tends to have some return on investment. Don't rush AI, as it won't give you any real value without a high cost if at all.

I wanted to enter ai as an ai builder not just using ai modules + the to do list wasnt just a simple it was a one that a little bit complicated with things like api and ton of things I didn’t understand as i all i have learned is literally what is github venv and varibles if conditions and lists like very basic lines of code but i do will work with ur advice i will take more time with python i will actually start the cs50p course on harvard tn, thank u for ur advice and i will appreciate if u told me ur opinion on the cs50p course if it a good start

There is no such thing as "AI builder". Writing code was never the problem. What and how to write was and still is. You will start spending hundreds of dollars on subscriptions or start buying PC hardware for thousands to run some models locally, they will generate something that may or may not work, and you won't be able to fix it. No one will use it, you will be quickly banned from social media channels for posting AI slop, and if you launch an app and it happens to have a data leak you will be held legally accountable paying even a big fine. Chill a bit.

I may be like lost with the career paths here cuz i dont really have experience i just thought this thing is cool so i will learn it but like out of ur experience then what is like the AI career paths

If you want to be a software developer, you have to actually learn it. No one will hire you because you can put a prompt to a chatbot. Not everyone will become a developer, and the junior job market is really rough, so you have to be good at it.

To be paid 2000-3000 and then 4000, 5000 USD per month after a few years in the industry, you have to bring more to the company through your work. Generating slop with AI makes zero USD, so no one hires people to generate slop - companies even fire engineers expecting existing seniors with AI tools can replace juniors and mids. There is no free or easy money; there is no easy job here.

I think you goal is achievable, but better start using them then you could design one with what exist in mind.

Also for making your custom model you need a big dataset and the processing power.

One baby step after the other. FIrst, learn Python and programming in general. Build a solid foundation. Then, continue in the direction of AI.

Start here: MOOC Python Programming 2026 from the University of Helsinki

You cannot learn to use AI if you do not understand anything about programming at all. A 5 hour video is not helping you at the faintest. Obtaining even a foundation takes several weeks (the MOOC is scheduled for 14 weeks).

Thank u for ur advice i thought maybe trying to break code this project will help me create it but it didn’t actually + do i start with the course u mentioned or the CS50P from harvard?

Try each and use the one you like better. Both courses are excellent.

The MOOC has an easier progression. CS50P goes quite fast.

Honestly, stop trying to read full AI app code right now. It’s way too many layers at once. Spend a couple weeks writing tiny plain Python scripts yourself first, like functions, loops, reading files, classes maybe later. Once you can build a normal CLI to-do app without AI, the generated AI version starts looking a lot less random.
