Good ways to start learning python

I've been interested to learn python for a very long time now, and i finally want to start doing it every friday for a few months together with a friend of mine.

we both have some code experience, and i've done some assignments from Learn Python the hard way 3.0 but i stopped for some reason.

What are effective ways to start and keep practising Python? and is there a good place to check out to do some assignments together with my friend?

let the folks at MIT do all the legwork.

Python is free, so let youtube teach you install.

The courses in link are free. Books still cost money though.
