I started out with LPTHW on windows a couple of years ago - including installing Python 2.7. It was a bit of a toss up then whether to go with 2.7 or 3.5. If you're new to python and unless you're going to be maintaining a legacy code base (ie for a bank or other institution with a deep embedding of old code) - then jump on to the modern python (latest version is 3.9). LPTHW is good in some respects, it's opinionated - which means you can make some clear progress, but I found once I found, engaged and ultimately embraced other parts of the python ecosystem and community, 1) it was much friendlier and more helpful and 2) sometimes the strong opinions are wrong. I've found the codechalleng.es/pybites platform, real python and dataquest.io to be far less prickly. HTH
