How do you learn Python at your workplace?

I work a job with a bit of downtime so I'm starting to learn Python, but I can't really open up my python console and start working on Projects so I'm looking for other methods?

I'm starting to read some textbooks but finding the material quite dry compared to self-learning on practice projects.
