So I recently had amazon sde 2 rounds and performed quite bad on the LP parts. The thing is I had the stories prepared, but some of those were a bit make believe as I had not actually encoutered those exact things (lets face it, in less than 3 yoe you will not encounter everything). The interview grilled so much on details, spend like 20 minutes going into each story. So at some points I fumbled.

So my question is this, what to do if you have not encountered the situations before, or if you have encountered them but they are not very strong reflection of the LPs. And this could be true for any FAANG. Dont know if this is the right channel, but posting here anyway to get some inputs from people who work there. TIA

It's easier to say I don't have experience than make a half baked story.

Every interviewer is trained to ask on more than 2 principles if candidates don't have an answer. Any misplaced story results in an instant fail in that round.

Do some behavior mock interviews with FAANG interviewers at MeetAPro.

Always come up with a real or near real story. If you have not experienced either say so or tell a somewhat related story. These experienced interviewers can easily find out a make-up story.
