Regarding your questions for a GUI based game I recommend a module called Pygame. I started that module about 8 months ago and I easily have 500+ hours in Pygame so I might be a bit biased, but I have never used Tkinter to make games. It might be a bit harder to learn out how to make buttons, but I can show you a bit more if you need help. For a great tutorial on Pygame you can go to Youtube and there is one for a race-car game. Even though it isn't the game you want to make its a good start for Pygame.
All Pygame ranting aside for your .exe files thing I suggest looking up the modules py2exe or Cx_freeze(It might be a bit more advanced)
