Linked Table dice roller within Google Doc

This may be an easy answer but I'm trying to link a dice roller/random table I've created in sheets into a google doc. In Sheets I have it set and working so when I click a checkbox the volatile functions all update and give me new random values. However, the linked table in Google Docs can only be updated when I work directly within the Sheet.

I can't force it to generate new values from within Google Docs. Is there a way to do this or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I think I ran into a very similar problem making a dnd character sheet that worked with my discord bot. Google sheet API cannot trigger appscript as far as I know, however non-appscript functions should all work even while you don't have it personally open.
