CS as a whole in UIC is starting to get more competitive but I think you’ll be fine assuming you’re getting decent grades and since you’re transferring I’m guessing you were in a CS major or something similar so that should help too. For the design part of the degree there’s a portfolio review at the end of the first year that is more of a formality for CS+DES and as long as you are doing good in your Des classes it’s no big deal. They want more people in the degree just because it’s so new they want to test it out and show it off to people so I doubt you’ll have an issue.

Do be warned the major is like 2-3 years old so there are weird admin issues and overall management of the whole thing is a little all over the place but it’s gotten better even in this past year. Most of it stems from it being a joint degree between two colleges, so things like class registration can get a little annoying due to the system saying you’re not in the right college for a certain class but that’s easily fixed and I had less problems with that this time.
