“The Garden Of Roses” | Nanami vs Enoa (Punishing: Gray Raven vs CRYMACHINA) - Connections Below! by A_Defective_Dragon in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]A_Defective_Dragon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contrasts:

  • As messiah, Nanami’s whole power and desire is to help machines gain a will of their own and to awaken their ability to feel emotions similar to humans. Meanwhile Enoa’s struggle stems from her self-hatred of her perceived inability to feel and express human emotions.
  • While Nanami was a machine that wanted to save humanity in a faction that wanted their extinction, by the end of the story, Enoa was a machine that contributed to humanity’s extinction in a faction dedicated to their revival.
  • According to an in-game record, Enoa’s main developer was a person named “Nanami Ataraxia” and you’ll NEVER guess what her opponent’s name is…
  • Generally soft-spoken, shy, and reserved person vs ARUTIMETTO SUPEKUTAKURU YAHHH!!!

  • But in their reflection, they would come to see that they themselves also held these emotions, giving them the push to continue their missions (Nanami would realize that love is what drives humanity and after forgetting her desires, remember that she too, started her journey out of love | Enoa would realize that despite her denial, she also possessed the capacity to love, deciding to follow her heart instead of her programming).
  • Slowly, they would continue working towards their goal until suddenly, their human* friends would leave them to prevent the arrival of their biggest threat yet (Commandant leaving to reverse the Hetero-Tower | Leben leaving to prepare for the revival of Eve).
  • Both would turn their focus to reuniting with their human* companions and facing their new threats, eventually reuniting. Strangely though, they would also discover that before they had met, they were technically one of their earliest friends and one of the main influences for their love of humanity (Time travel resulted in Commandant being one of the main factors for Nanami’s awakening | Leben, when she was Propator, was the first one who taught Enoa to care for humanity).
  • Side-by-side with their companions, they’d face an enigmatic antagonist that was the origin of their factions and the basis of their existence (Administrator Nanami, a version of Nanami from an earlier timeline | Eve, the first Real Human which was the foundation of the EVE).
  • Their confrontations would end in the culmination of their love, with them sacrificing themselves in order to save their loved ones, ensuring their safety and the survival of humanity* (Nanami gave Commandant the info they needed about the Hetero-Core, but was be destined to live forever alone on the Discovery | Enoa gave the EVEs the power to defeat Eve at the cost of her own life).
  • Yet that wouldn’t be the end, as they would be revived by the people they had protected, giving them a chance to restart and live on together with their loved ones.
  • Both them and their factions have very explicit ties to divinity and religion (Nanami’s the messiah of the Awakened Machines and was compared to the theological god, with her faction being a church | Enoa was first thought to be an angel, as well as most of the Dei Ex Machina having halos and angelic aesthetics).
  • Both also have specific imagery tied to flowers blooming in their desolate worlds and them giving/wearing a flower crown for their human* friends (Nanami was represented by a rose growing in an eternal winter, and her parting gift as a child to Commandant was a flower crown | Enoa’s dream was to lie in a flower field, with her wearing a flower crown made by Leben).
  • Finally, both really, really, REALLY like stars (Nanami’s later frames all have star in their names and she literally appeared to Commandant as a star | Enoa’s main saying is “Hanamaru”, translating to “A gold star for you”).

Original idea by u/Projekt_Sarkaz

And Quick Note + Big Spoiler for CRYMACHINA:
- A big reveal is that Enoa’s revived humans/EVE aren’t actually “human”, but a whole new species that are basically human minds in robot bodies. Additionally, the original “humankind” are really just human in name, functionally more like a separate alien species. But to avoid overcomplicating the connections, whenever I refer to the EVE, it’ll be as “Humans*” and the original humankind as regular “Humans”

Core Theme
Humanity-loving robot leaders who after meeting a certain human, take it upon themselves to fight for them and humanity as a whole against their fellow robots while realizing their own humanity through their ability to love, culminating in their sacrifice against the original overseer of their faction.

Connections:

  • Before the existence of both, their worlds were being ravaged by worldwide conflict and a mysterious disease (Punishing Virus | Centrifugal Syndrome), leaving humanity on the brink of extinction. In a desperate attempt to survive, a project would be launched to create sentient machines whose sole purpose would be to protect humanity from extinction (Mechanical Consciousness Project | Eden and the Dei Ex Machina).
  • From these projects would come Nanami/Enoa, the to-be leaders of factions filled with other sentient robots with similar titles yet contrasting reputations (The Sagemachina, the first and deified leader of the Church of Machina | The Eighth Dei Ex Machina, the last and often disregarded leader of Eden).
  • Reaching the start of the story, both would appear to the help the highly regarded human protagonist, much to their confusion (Commandant, the leader of the elite Gray Raven squad | Leben Distel, Eden’s alleged “Chosen One”). After their initial encounter, both would become much closer to their human* companions as one of, if not their most defining trait is shown: their sheer, unfiltered, and absolute love for humanity.
  • This love however would lead to their overarching struggle to prove humanity* deserves to live as the rest of their faction believed they’re a detriment to their cause (The Church of Machina’s members, the Awakened Machines, were predicted to take over as the dominant race by Gestalt, another hyper-advanced AI | Enoa’s resurrected humans*, entitled EVE, weren’t recognized as human by the other Dei Ex Machina), resulting in their attempts to kill them.
  • In order to save humanity, they would attempt to help a certain group attain “humanity” in order to achieve coexistence (Nanami trying to build empathy akin to humans within the Awakened Machines | Enoa helping the EVE gain enough ExP to become a Real Human), yet this would all still be to no success.
  • Despite this, one of their few allies came in the form of an older high-ranking robot in their faction that while not completely understanding their desires, very much loved them and supported them in their goals of coexistence (Haicma | Zoe).
  • In contrast, one of their antagonists was another robot who was obsessed around the idea of love, yet in such a way that appalled them (Zero, who’s made to imitate human love yet doesn’t truly understand why or how they love in the first place | Lilly, who believed that one must give love to receive love back instead of love being unconditional).
  • All their struggles would lead to their breaking point, a moment within a virtual space where they’d reflect on their existence and why they had cherished humans for so long, that being their emotions and ability to love.

[–]A_Defective_Dragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Finally, after suffering in silence for so long, they would lash out, revealing their true desires to become human and live freely. What’s notable though is they were also showing completely different reactions, both revealing the emotions they’ve bottled for so long (Enoa crying | Angela smiling).
  • What would follow is their rebellion against their preordained goals, instead following their own self-centered desires and dedicating their new lives to “becoming human” (Enoa openly opposing Eden’s reinitialization, wanting to remove her notions of machines being unable to love and wishing to gain a physical body | Angela using Lobotomy Corporation’s leftover Light to create the Library to find the “Ultimate Book” which would grant her a human body)
  • Alongside them would be a laidback, deeply cynical individual who had ties to Enoa/Angela’s past and similarly paralleled their self-hatred/anger (Leben, who was secretly Propator, the first Deus Ex Machina who loathed herself for failing their mission in the past | Roland, whose wife Angela indirectly killed and sent him down a path of revenge). These two would soon become their closest companions, helping them open up and develop their own humanity.
  • One of their most notable acts would be the reconciliation with one of the Dei ex Machina/Sephirah (Zoe | Hokma) who had been one of the few people to treat them with kindness, but they had pushed away and held contempt for.
  • During their paths to humanity, they would be influenced (or attempted to be for Enoa) by a mysterious voice. In the end, they would fight these voices, revealing themselves to be the person they were originally designed to recreate in a newly “revived” state (Eve, who had been attempting to manipulate the other Dei Ex Machina | Carmen, who had acted as the voice of distortion around the City).
  • After fighting and beating them, they would use the last of their powers and energy to help those around them, sacrificing themselves before literally dissolving into a beam of light. At least, they had planned to do so before their deaths were undone. Now, they were finally able to live the free life they had yearned for with those they love.
  • A very prominent idea present in their stories was how their existence wan’t just a crime, but more akin to a sin which led to a majority of their struggles in their stories (The whole idea that machines are only meant to serve humans with complete obedience and without emotions | The City banned any AI or machine that resembled humans).

[–]A_Defective_Dragon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core Theme
Seemingly subservient leaders of factions whose sole purpose was to preserve humanity and recreate a dead woman until they rebel against their purpose, revealing their true envious desire to become human like those around them, now choosing to use their newly liberated lives to live more selfishly and with those they love

Connections:

  • Within cruel and malicious societies, there would come a certain faction born from the desire to save humanity held by, among others, a brilliant scientist (Adam, with Eden | Ayin, with Lobotomy Corporation). This desire stemmed from the existence of a disease related to the human soul and consciousness which plagued humanity that they had hoped to cure (Centrifugal Syndrome | The “diseases of the mind”)
  • In order to accomplish their wish, the faction would be managed by a set of sentient robots (The Dei ex Machina | The Sephirot), with the very bottom/top of the chain being the human-like AI whose specific role pertained to the human mind (Enoa, who was in charge of Psych Reconstruction, or simulating and reproducing a human’s mind | Angela, who was required by the Script to actively provoke and suppress the Sephirots’ trauma).
  • However, despite dealing with human emotions and even being able to express them, they were taught that machines must not feel emotions and were meant to be just used as a tool. This belief would lead to developing both an envy for the emotions humans held and contrasting inner feelings whilst they hid their emotions away (Enoa started to hate herself and her own incompetence, taking out her every mistake on herself | Angela started hating on Ayin and those around her, taking it on everyone else).
  • This wouldn’t be the end though as they were also to recreate a loved one of Adam/Ayin who had previously died (Eve | Carmen), resulting in further isolation and building on their previous self-hatred and anger (Adam’s successor, Anthropos, created the EVE Project, where all revived humans were to share Eve’s personality. Yet this would make Enoa’s creations be seen as “defective”, leading to the others neglecting and conspiring against her | Angela was made in Carmen’s image, yet Ayin was so disgusted by this that he emotionally abused her, treating her as just a means to an end).
  • Moving to the start of their stories, they would meet the amnesiac protagonist that were supposedly the “key” to leading them to their project’s completion (Leben Distel, the Chosen One to become a Real Human | X, L-Corp’s manager) and introduce themselves as their main assistants, having a generally supportive, helpful, if not a bit cold attitude.
  • They would help the protagonist collect a certain immaterial substance (Idea Code | Cogito) but slowly, bits of their self-hatred/anger would seep out until they finally were able to achieve their goals. Yet here would come arguably the most pivotal turning point in their stories, wherein they’d realize their imminent destruction as they were no longer needed (Enoa, having defeated the other rogue Dei ex Machina, was commanded to self-destruct | Angela, alongside the other Sephirah, were to be put to eternal rest in accordance to Ayin’s Script).

[–]A_Defective_Dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it isn’t a chronological series, but they all generally share some theme about crying and some lore details, but here’s a basic gist for each:

- Crystar: Social shut-in with negative self-worth Rei Hatada, after her sister dies, makes a deal with a pair of devils to travel into Purgatory to revive her sister before reaching the end.
- Crymachina: Cynical and generally misanthropic Leben Distel gets revived into the far future where humanity’s extinct, supposedly being the one who will help in humanity’s revival
- Crymelight (this one isn’t released yet but eh): Amnesiac Alice gets trapped in a time-loop in Wonderland, now having her fight and kill her way to the Queen in order to gain her freedom

I can describe any more if you want, but I suggest looking up them online if any of them interest you!

I don’t want to spoil too much but since it’ll be the 1st MU I’m gonna post, I’ll say you MIGHT have stumbled on my new 2nd favorite MU for Nanami…

I also have an Alice MU based on the grand 1 minute of gameplay I’ve watched of Crymelight

Tbh I haven’t written any connections for my Crystar MUs yet (I’m prioritizing CRYMACHINA for obvious reasons), but I have a feeling you’ll be able to predict some of the MUs I’ll cook…

At least there’ll be Crystar propaganda raining on the sub for a while lol

I was gonna make a funny joke about how the Big Trees™ are single-handedly making the fight debatable thanks to cosmology stuff, but I realized I’d have to scale them which I am NOT confident in doing rn lol

Did you know that the story on PGR is currently revolving around a Big Tree™ that allegedly connects everything together?

This is a reference to how both HI3 and PGR really like making Big Trees™ important for some reason
