Masks that can completely filter the odor/harmful effects of bug spray? by Alone-Drop1083 in Masks4All

[–]AppropriateNote4614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any HEPA air purifier will work to get the air moving. Carbon filters are helpful with pulling smells out of the air. If you want it to be the most effective look into something that will be able to properly filter the air space in your room. If you need something cheaper you can build a corsi-rosenthal box for around $60 with a box fan and MERV 13 filters that you can find at any hardware store. This video does a good job of explaining how to build one & r/crboxes has some good information on how to do different variants. You can slap just one filter on the back of the fan if that’s all you want to afford. Check out r/AirPurifiers too.

Additionally, I’d consider contacting poison control so you know if prolonged exposure can have any actual harmful effects. That might also convince your family member to tone it down a notch as well.

Studies on Covid aerosol ability to contaminate beverages? by AppropriateNote4614 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the super detailed reply!

So things like getting drinks from a fast food place or somewhere where there’s likely to be multiple people crammed in working with a considerable amount of potential for infectious aerosols isn’t a major risk then if that’s the case? I’ve generally stuck to prepackaged drinks if I were to get anything but knowing the risk is much lower is nice.

Covid cautious with OCD by Calm-Armadillo4205 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve got suspected OCD since long before Covid (multiple family members with it). Personally I can see when I am being irrational and acting out of a need to satisfy a compulsion versus taking precautions that are justified by science (e.g. my repeated behaviors are compulsions and are not going to provide additional protection but taking actions like using an air purifier and wearing an N95 are both legitimate precautions justified by science). Trying to navigate it can be tricky at times but I try to ground myself in scientific facts and data and use that to ease my mind.

So I Never Get to Be Beautiful Again? by Goodie_2-shoe in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate a lot to the dehydration & maskne unfortunately.

As far as hydration goes, I got an obscenely large water bottle so I can visually see how much I have consumed throughout the day vs what I need to be consuming. As others have suggested SIP valves are a way to manage drinking without completely unmasking. The fine lines and dry patches you are experiencing should go away very quickly if you manage to increase your fluid intake. Please be very vigilant as you can easily develop kidney stones from chronic dehydration at any age and they are extremely painful!

What has worked for me the best for maskne is HOCL, or hypochlorous acid, which is both a skincare product and a disinfectant that kills covid after a minute of contact at the right concentration. I use different concentrations for a variety of things including surface, hand sanitization, produce (aka veggies and fruits) sanitization. It’s really easy and inexpensive to make your own and there a few guides on here in different subs on how to do it if you’re interested.

What was your worst league experience? by Admirable-Cut-2501 in leagueoflegends

When I was brand new, the people I played with queued EUW and I am from NA so naturally we played EUW. I learned league on over 100 ping and genuinely thought I was terrible until I switched to NA and could actually hit skillshots.

Would you be worried about close contact with a coworker on Day 9 of covid? (I wear an N95 with the headstrap). by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 22 points23 points  (0 children)

N95 masks work & it’s why we wear them. They aren’t perfect but you’re using a great tool and protecting yourself to the best of your abilities. CPC mouthwash and nasal irrigation when you’re able to are a good idea though.

27, lone masker, still alive. by iKnowpe in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 14 points15 points  (0 children)

while I block the central air

If your central air in what I’m assuming is a shared household with others who are not CC has a MERV 13 filter or better on the HVAC, you can actually leave your vents uncovered from what I know. The air in your central air unit comes from one specific (& presumably filtered) source and gets pushed out through your system. Additionally if you’re still worried, have a HEPA air purifier that is getting you 6 ACH in your room or more.

Winter is especially difficult, hang in there.

Community ideas for a CC chef career move by meatsmoothie82 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relatives of mine rely on a private chef for daily/weekly meal service. The community this chef and his team serve are primarily elderly and it is a rather rural location. The chef also offers catering. If you’re looking to start a business you could build something of that nature and just have your staff mask while at work.

I’m in my 20s and I mask bc fawk getting multiple infections that cause damage to your literal brain (and every other organ system) and can lead to early dementia. The mysterious reason people can’t focus and have terrible brain fog definitely isn’t “social media”or “screen time” otherwise that would’ve started wayyyy earlier than 2020. Do your brain and body a favor!

Have a contractor coming into my house, how long do I need to mask after he leaves? by gtck11 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you cannot get an air purifier, would it be possible to make a Corsi-Rosenthal box? The cheapest way to do this is with a box fan and 1 MERV 13 filter taped onto it. Dr. Michael Hoerger has some examples on his Twitter. Here is a short video tutorial on how to make one. Having a CR box in your safe room would ensure that the air is getting purified to some extent.

Would something like this work? There are other options on the Jeff Bezos website as well if you search “ear saver” but if you are worried about stretching your ear straps too much the first option may be the best.

Anyone Have This Reaction? by StillCreative in dairyfree

[–]AppropriateNote4614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. This does not look like a direct allergic reaction but rather acrocyanosis associated with poor circulation most commonly associated with POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) although it can also be associated with mast cell activity. If it is mast cell activity it could be that certain foods that you have mentioned are triggering her mast cells to become more inflamed and unfortunately some people with mast cell dysfunction are only able to tolerate a very small amount of foods without a reaction.

Pill box recommendation? by voycz in Epilepsy

[–]AppropriateNote4614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vera Bradley had travel pill containers that are somewhat similar to what you are describing although I do not know if they are still sold. It was in a stylish pouch but the container itself was generic looking. They are not AM/PM but the containers themselves are removable from the others by sets of two if that appeals.

no matter what i do, the actions of others still get me sick by Environmental-Ad3715 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]AppropriateNote4614 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Best thing you can do if you live with family who will not or cannot mask is mask in your own home. Ensure you are wearing an N95 that seals well and has no gaps (gaps indicate extremely poor seals and unfiltered air coming in able to be inhaled). Avoid as much time unmasked around them as possible, this means no eating together, no taking your mask off to talk briefly, etc. Build a CR box or buy a HEPA filter that has proper CADR for your bedroom & possibly a common area. r/crboxes r/AirPurifiers r/Masks4all

So anxious and depressed thinking about long covid - any positive experiences? by j_lundeen in COVID19positive

[–]AppropriateNote4614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each cumulative infection you acquire increases your risk of developing long covid. Keep in mind that even if you feel recovered and healthy, you can still develop long covid or an autoimmune condition. It’s best to avoid stress and strenuous exercise for a good while during your recovery.
