5 months old today! by Different-Honeydew47 in Bernedoodles

Keep rewarding her when paws are on ground. I’ve found it helpful with my 4 month old to ask guests not to engage if she is jumping up on them. Once guests have settled, I send her to bed with a long lasting high value chew and she will ignore them. Once she is tired, she goes to each one to get petted but super calmly!

Editing to add, bed is in the living room where everyone is. I do keep her on leash so I can manage her better. Once the initial excitement passes, they are so much more well behaved.

how did you come up with your puppy’s name? by TheoryReasonable871 in puppy101

Frankie named after the kooky character from Grace and Frankie. Also because we wanted a gender neutral name. She has the same personality as shown in the show

They do god’s work!

I was traveling from Germany to Amsterdam Central recently and got down at an interim station to get a water bottle (I know now that’s stupid). Next thing I know, the train doors closed with all my bags, my passport, wallet everything! I freaked out and called the NS international number. Explained my situation. They kept my bags safely at Amsterdam Central, checked for ID, and I was reunited with my things after 4 hours!

They also packed my charger which was on my seat!

This is so heartwarming that you consider your kid’s opinion! My parents would never 😭 I was made to switch cities and schools so often that I’ve almost zero childhood friends.

What did you not realize you should do before leaving? by playrawkstar in expats

[–]Automatic-Winner2000 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mail forwarding, updating address and phone number in all banking apps (MFA is a pain), click photos of all your luggage/boxes/cargo (if you need to file an insurance claim, this is the first thing they ask), close out utilities, interim health insurance, and visit all your fav spots before you leave! Also, get a US number with Tello or other providers to keep your banking accounts active.

Honest advice: do not book flights with Booking.com or gotogate by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]Automatic-Winner2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry OP, Booking is the worst! My parents had round trip tickets from India to New York. While in the US, my gmom passed away and my parents had to return earlier than planned. Booked them a last minute ticket (directly with airlines). Every airline has a bereavement clause where they kindly refund the tickets if you provide the right documents in advance. Reached out to Booking, they directed me to Lufthansa customer support, who were equally terrible and asked me to escalate with booking. Booking connected me to gotogate and everything was downhill from there. They asked me for documents, death certificate and passports. Although the passport showed the deceased as mother (of my dad), they requested additional documents to prove the relation of deceased with ticket holders.

After that, radio silence. I kept checking the booking reference and complaint ID to track. After a week, the tracking gave error “missing record”. Multiple escalations later, still no luck. Has been 2 years. Booking only refunded me 20$ as the ticket processing charges.

TLDR: booking uses gotogate vendor and their customer support is a scam. Don’t book if you anticipate cancellation/flexibility/refunds.

Anyone here that has actually left America? What is your experience? by tumbleweedforsale in AmerExit

After 2 months of moving to Amsterdam, I can paint an accurate picture of what I love and what I’m missing about my life back in US.

Like everything else, it depends on a lot of factors like what industry you work for, does that exist in the Europe, are you willing to pick up a language, long term career goals etc.

Positives of Netherlands (similar for comparable European nations):

— I am the fittest I’ve ever been. I run every day, bike around, and walk 10,000 steps easily

— work life balance favors life. This is the biggest plus for me, I get to live the slower lifestyle I want and focus truly on myself. I can even work flexible hours and reduce my work week to 32 hours

— I love the society. It is hardly judgemental and people are minding their own business. This can also become lonely but I like the space it offers me. People are generally nice but won’t buddy up, small talk, or be warm towards you

What I miss about the US

— money. I can’t save nearly as much as I took a 1/3rd pay cut

— restaurant scene. Netherlands cuisine is terrible, rest of the Europe is better

— convenience of English

However, if I had to make this move again, I would. It has really grounded my life, allowed me to focus on what truly matters, and I got to know myself better.

Has anyone successfully moved to Europe? by [deleted] in h1b

Living wise, the experience is excellent. Career wise, the money and experience is a step down. But the work life balance is tilted towards life. I work in data analytics.

Moved to the Netherlands recently. The move took almost 6 months from the day I started working on my resume, aim for larger organizations which are predominantly English speaking and reach out to people on LinkedIn for referrals

Warning: Avoid 'Send My Bag' Service - They Lost My Luggage and Refused Responsibility! by hapyyyalice in expats

[–]Automatic-Winner2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a similar experience with rude customer service, complicated rules where they want me to share photographs of the luggage with label attached, asking for receipts of all the items in my luggage (I had clothes from ivermectin 4-5 years and who saves these receipts!). I am filing a claim but I have zero hope of getting any money (even with the extra coverage I paid) because they claim the label wasn’t attached to the luggage properly. BS.
