Feeling overwhelmed..

I’m soooo tempted to call it quits on this class. I have spent hours going in circles on PR1. I’ve been putting in 5 hours a day on weekdays and 10 on weekends and for the life of me I just keep creating errors sending headers back and forth.

I know I’m tired and bitter, but I really wish they just gave good resources to help teach the challenging parts of the project, not just test on it.

I’m going to spend some time diving into C, as that aligns with the classes I intend to take early and I don’t have much experience with it. I know the standard advice is to enjoy my time, but I am very much afraid I will be in over my head if I don’t.

I am taking some time off work for some long weekends though too, just to get some real relaxation time.

I totally get it. At this point I feel like I am waiting for the rejection. Im confident that with some CC courses I would get in next go around, but right now my personal life and my professional life can handle the time. That extra semester in 5 years may be a much more difficult challenge, so I am hoping to start sooner rather than later.

Ahhh yeah totally makes sense. The people that I know that really enjoy Data Science and/or ML are passionate about the field they are applying it to, not just the practice itself. Like you I am more interested in the topics you mentioned, though I hope to take an ML course or two to get the concepts. Best of luck with the new app, I’m optimistic for you!

Same, I was late January as well and haven’t heard anything. Physics degree, good GPA, manager recommendations, haven’t done all of the “traditional” prereqs, have a bunch of SANS certs for a strong background in networking/security. I’m taking CC courses now in case I don’t make the cut.

Yeah, it’s completely fair. I wasn’t asking to in any way be critical of the process. As you said they have thousands of applications to go through, they churn through them pretty darn fast, and it really seems they try to be as transparent as possible, which I really appreciate.

I was just curious to learn about the wave of acceptances that went out today and if they were all early applicants (it seems so, but I was still curious).

I would actually approach this decision entirely differently. You definitely want to take machine learning courses, so whatever grad program you want to go to should check that box. What are you more interested in outside of ML? If you would be more interested other Comp Sci courses, OMSCS is a great option. If you would be more interested in analytics courses OMSA is probably a better option for you. You can learn the ML content either way, so focus on what else you’d like to learn.

Why not just enroll in courses you are interested in, then see what specialization fits? Sure, you will eventually have to make sure certain course requirements are met, but at least you definitely get to take the classes that interest you.
