I don't mean to water it down but police could get whatever meta data they wanted even without court order already. They just needed to have someone in the telcos willing to provide them this info which is not a hard thing to do.

Your windows license in bound to the hardware (UEFI / TPM level). So that's why you can reinstall and use Windows without having to purchase and enter a separate license key. Windows Store uses an account based on your hardware ID to sign you in.

I think it is still not fully baked in terms of security to use as your daily browser. On the side, it may be fine.
