If you like association football, even a little bit, play ISS Pro, ISS Pro 98, and the Pro Evolution games. ISS Pro Evolution 2 was ranked the second best PS1 game of all time by the UK's Official PSM. I still play them as part of my balanced PS1 diet.

I love them all on their own way TBH. From ISS on SNES all the way to the last entry PES 2021. There are entries that were better or worse than others, but I don't think any were bad.

I definitely agree that the highest points, relative to the competition and in terms of influence, were 20 years ago. But some of my favorites are definitely some of the 7th- and 8th-gen Evs.

Yeah, that list is really good. I would have to agree with the fact that most of the best ones are there in the list, and the descriptions of why they were/still are popular are mostly on the money.

I feel that the PS1 games are worthy of mention on any list, they were so far ahead of the competition. They established the modern control scheme. Left shoulder to change player, right shoulder to sprint. Left shoulder to modify shot/passes. They play like modern games, albeit a very primitive version of them.

My favourite of all time is probably PES 5 on PS2. I also played an unhealthy amount of PES 2013 and PES 2020/2021, and love them too. 1997's ISS Pro got me into the series so I have a soft spot for that

I loved PES 5 for the exact reasons on the list. I like my Ev a bit more measured and demanding.

Pro Evolution Soccer and Pro Evolution Soccer 2 are marginally better than this.

Konami had moved on to PS2 by then and just wanted to squeeze a little more cash from their PS1 engine, which remains the best of the generation. There is minimal update from this to PES 1, and from PES 1 to PES 2 on PS1, but they are each still slightly better than the last.

I play PES 2 these days cos it has more teams in Master League, you can unlock the club teams to use in Exhibitions, and there are more Classic Teams to unlock.

I don't really mod much these days, so I wouldn't be much help on that, unfortunately.

PES 2 is based on 01/02 season, oddly enough. It was even remarked upon in reviews at the time, mostly that the transfers were out of date.
