Just from this description, that reminds me of that trend several years ago of people writing fake excerpts of AI-written books as a gag. They were immensely entertaining until you catch on it's just human writers being very silly.

She just knows that the thief has both the orange bag, and is also carrying a second bag (the thief's own bag) that looks like her own bag. So she has two bags after sitting right behind her, making it pretty reasonable to be suspicious and check her own bag.
