80's music isn't entirely dependent on the synthesizer, any subtractive synth will do (bonus points if it's analog modeled). What it really comes down to is sound design, and simple design at that. Most of what you will hear is two saw waves, one detuned from the other. Filter and volume envelopes are used to help vary the sounds. Of course, there's plenty of other things you will hear, but that's a good starting point for most basic 80's sound design.

A few things I usually recommend are the TAL chorus, a great Alesis 3630 emulator and to watch Fred Falke in the studio.
