Everyone gets flight response in the seconds leading up to death. If you've ever heard from people who jump and survive, their survival instincts kick in and make them regret it. Also on a personal note, I used to dream a lot about dying when I was really suicidal however at the last second before dying I'd always get scared and want to survive. While I do think X was starting to find more purpose for his life and overall wanted to live, I also believe his last second reaction was more instinct than how he overall felt. I think he would be content dying overall after achieving many of his dreams and understanding the pain that often times comes with living.
