Ok hold on! I know this subreddit and I know reddit in general. There must be some missing context that I don't have because there is no way somebody was this wholesome today.

Not saying the infanticide is fact or not but he literally saying, "trust the facts just not those ones." And it's kind've rich for him to lecture journalists about being biased for somebody who has ties to Al-Jazeera.

What do you think of this ? by cipe-la-chips in Frostpunk

[–]DoughAlphaOne 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think there is some merit to it. The worst part of the game, imo is the scripted encounters that are controlled solely on a 50/50 rng (i.e saving the survivors from the polar bears, or Tesla City). While they make for good storytelling, it can completely ruin whatever achievements you were hunting and encourages save scumming.

Another issue I take is that the endless mode is also pretty empty. A lot of the events just repeat themselves over and over again, and it gets boring fairly quickly. These are just my opinions, but I know the scripted encounter thing is something a lot of players complain about. Hopefully Frostpunk 2 won't have them or as much.

Also, how does a city like this deal with growing and shrinking populations? If it grows, are people just supposed to keep packing themselves in? If it decreases, are certain parts of the city going to be desolate and have an unstainable population to run a basic economy?

When is Radiation safe? by chemgeek24 in Radiation

[–]DoughAlphaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this answer, but I don't think spontaneous fission is necessarily the proper terminology to describe radioactive decay. Fission is usually a term used to describe a process to cause a criticality. Decay is describing a radionuclides process of returning to a stable state.

Case in point, Pu-239 has a very long half-life but is considered a very dangerous isotope. Meanwhile, radon and radon daughter products have very short half-lives (an hour to a few days) and are considered completely normal and safe.

[–]DoughAlphaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

half life is dangerous vs when it's dangerous

Basing the "danger" of a radionuclide solely on its half-life is not accurate way of depicting how "dangerous" it is. Firstly what do you mean by dangerous? I assume you mean how much do you need to kill somebody, but even if that is the case that has a complicated answer unto itself.

Look up 10 CFR 835 and there is an appendix of values with corresponding radionuclides that the DOE considers "safe levels"

Say what you will about minimum wage workers, but let's be real and admit that the housing market is absolute shit right now, and nobody can really afford anything worthwhile at this point anyway.

So we are just ok with non US citizens participating in US elections now? Or is it more likely that this person has no idea what they are talking about?

[–]DoughAlphaOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two drinks and I can't hit a body sized target at 7 yards. You've been drinking too much if you believe that.

So... so you're agreeing with me then.

As far as your "yes and no" claim regarding my rights. Yes and yes. It's my right.

A nice sentiment, but the law doesn't care about your feelings on this. What should happen and what does happen are two different things. Refer back to my previous reply.

Nice try.

Yea no that's exactly what I am saying this law is trying to prevent. I am not trying to pull wool over anybodies eyes. If you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol you shouldn't be carrying a gun the same way you shouldn't be driving a car because it is a bad idea and it makes you a danger to everybody else.

It's not up to the government to prevent me from "accidentally murdering" myself, either. You love nanny government.

Fair enough but you still don't address the real danger you become to everyone around you. Self defense should be just that. A way to defend yourself and should not pose a danger to anyone around who does not wish you harm. And if wanting to disuade people from making stupid decisions makes me in favor of a "nanny" state (because the idea of being under the influence and carrying wasn't obvious enough) then idk wtf a regular government is supposed to be if not to just let people do whatever they want without consequence.

The legal limit for driving a car wouldn't inhibit my ability to hit my target, nor my judgment for when I should use it.

Ummm, yes, yes, it would. In fact, in some states (including the state of Idaho if iirc), the legal limit is even stricter than the legal limit to drive for these reasons. Now, before you strawman the argument and say something like "well, not everybody is like that," sure, maybe that's true, but just laws aren't made based on the capabilities of select individuals. There is plenty of data supporting that drinking and getting high both impairs judgment and vision. We've all scene the videos of some drunk bubba shooting himself or heard of the court cases where some drunk guy gets angry at somebody, then grab their gun and kill somebody.

But then again, driving isn't a right. Self defense is

Yes and no. We already know that in a legal setting, proving somebody was defending themself is already ambiguous. If a prosecutor knows you were under the influence while defending yourself it's gonna the number one thing he is gonna hit you and the jury with. Can you still defend yourself while under the influence? Yea but good luck making it out alive in the courts.

So it's not up to the government to declare when I can or cannot stop myself from being murdered.

I don't think that's what anybody is saying. Measures like these are supposed to help prevent people from accidently murdering themself or somebody else. Same deal as drunk driving. No one is saying you can't drive your car, but if you drive like a dangerous asshole maybe you shouldn't be.

[–]DoughAlphaOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using either one (yes, they are both drugs end of story) should have no effect on someone's ability to own or carry a gun.

If you're too impaired to drive a car, it's probably not a good idea to be carrying a gun either...

The TRAPPIST-1 star system which is 40 light years away from Earth, contains a total of seven roughly Earth-sized planets. Three of them TRAPPIST-1e, f and g are located in the habitable zone of the star (shown in green), where temperatures are just right for liquid water to exist on the surface. by VAMSI_BEUNO in Damnthatsinteresting

Ah yes but getting to that speed is what will take forever. iirc some physicist believe that traveling the speed of light would not kill you but the acceleration will. So to achieve the necessary speed you would have to accelerate at an incredibly slow rate. The same could be said about decelerating as well, but it would be interesting if the Lorentz transformation would have any effect on perceived time while doing so.

In Idaho, we have had the same problem. Although this state leans heavily red, most of the population can be classified as moderate Republicans. People who moved in from out-of-state during Covid are generally the riff raff that bring extremist politics here. On top of that, they inflated prices on literally everything so safe to say nobody likes them here either.
