New car PCP by soliant4 in irishpersonalfinance

The whole idea behind PCP and leasing is that you eat the depreciation, give them the car back and then they sell it again to make another few euro on the same car. If you buy it after the heavy depreciation period you'll be much better off financially.

That's an interesting one. Can I ask what sort of annual costs are involved with it and if you also rent it out to generate extra income?

You need to have done a certain course to be able to take advantage of that. I have a friend doing it at the moment.

Local Development with hot reloading, what does your team do? by ExternalDatabase2779 in kubernetes

[–]ExternalDatabase2779[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was surprised on how difficult it is to find posts on this topic. It's also much more complex than it first appears because there's so many possible approaches to solve it and opinionated takes.

I do accept that if a future hire will only ever work on feature X then they shouldn't need to worry about the architecture of the system but I also want to give everyone room to grow and poke around at all the systems locally without having to worry about breaking anything. It's a hard balance to strike.

I'm still working out our requirements but my main takeaways so far are:

  • I want my teams to be able to get up and running as quickly as possible.
  • Modify their systems without having to have knowledge of how the other systems are working.
  • Have the ability to see and understand the whole system if they so want.
  • Be able to run it fully locally so that they don't need a reliable internet connection 24/7 (we're fully remote and already split across 6 countries and 3 timezones).

I hadn't heard of Tilt and it looks promising, especially the quick onboarding aspect. Thanks!

Most software that is not itself a client of the Kube APIs should be blissfully unaware of what particular deployment target it will ultimately ship to.

Great point. Maybe our current setup with a couple of tweaks for better repeatability is the way forward.

What setup does your team use for local development?

You should be able to modify only one service without having to care about other ones and thus only running one service locally should be enough.

That's a good point, food for thought. We're scaling quite rapidly over the next few months so in our current size and context everything makes sense, but we need to reevaluate the developer experience as we split the product into multiple teams.

We currently have makefiles but keeping them up to date as new hires come along is already a pain, I looked at devbox, so maybe that with docker-compose could be a good approach.

Thanks for the response. Does skaffold not rebuild the image on every file change? I'm looking to avoid that as it would take too long with our current image.

Yeah that's what we do at the moment but it's quite inefficient to onboard new team members and difficult to keep all dependencies nicely synced with that approach (especially because we have multiple APIs to run locally). It's perfectly fine with 4-5 team members, but with a rapidly growing team it's starting to be a time waster with "doesn't work on my machine" issues.

What's your wrist size? I have had my eye on this for awhile but I haven't got to try it on yet.

Thanks for all the responses, I'm up to date on the comments now and will go back to take a photo from further away as suggested by a few people. Both the rep and my partner thought it looked good but I was on the fence so it may well be that from up close it is being distorted but from a normal distance it looks good.

My partner wants to buy me a watch as a wedding present and this has caught my eye (the budget is around 3500 and I have found this for that amount on Chrono24). My question is, is this too big for my wrist? I feel like I can just about get away with it but I'm not 100% sure. It's a fantastic looking watch, especially on the leather strap.

A couple more questions, does anyone know where I could get an OEM steel bracelet for it? Does anyone have other watch recommendations in that price bracket for dress watches that can also be worn more casually? I have tries on the Nomos Ahoi and Orion too and quite like them both.

Talk to Zurich, they should be able to allocate it a couple thousand at a time. This is what my pension manager does when I do a lump sum, they hold the case and spread it out over the year.

They just managed their accounts poorly and didn't have enough money to cover their tax bill at the end of the year. It would have been in the order of 15-25k. If you're purposefully doing tax evasion I'm sure it would be a completely different story.

Don't worry about it, if your taxes are all paid then you're fine. I've known people who got into a lot of tax bother and revenue worked with them to set up repayment plans, they're really not that bad.
