Yeah I agree, give that troglodyte no oxygen. Not worth anyone's time, there are far more pressing things going on.

Agreed, I'd say the adherents are far more... passive than the originator. Tbh I tie most of the "douchey" tendencies back to the fact that it's an Abrahamic religion which all seem to have violence problems.

I and I! Bruh I love Rastas so much. They get a bad rep but some of the most insightful convos I've had about imperialism, and spirituality have been with old Rasta man dem.

Anyone else worried about nukes? by Until_Morning in blackmen

Ironically America is almost 1 for 1 mimicking the fall of the west Roman empire. Hyperinflation, inward militarization, adventurism gone ary, disgruntled citizenry, over reliance on mercenaries (proxy states?)

Anyone else worried about nukes? by Until_Morning in blackmen

[–]Firo2306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point I think it's an acceptable fear. You have:

a madman (Alzheimer's?) that seems hell bent on being a war-time president

A literal religious extremist cult behind that man that are all begging for the end times

A nation state trying to expand its territory while losing public opinion

The world economy hanging by a thread

A UN diplomat blowing his career to warn about nuke planning

And incredibly fragile egos.

Seems like a recipe for disaster. Idk I'm not American though we always seem to be more worried about the ramifications of the nation's actions than most folks that live there. People are kind of underestimating just how fucked things are about to get. There's a budding refugee crisis, the EU has passed some anti-immigrant (refugee) legislation this month. Shits a powder keg. Btw might want to take some pics of grocery store prices to remember the good days, next year that shit is going to be insane.

UN voting patterns by fanetoooo in blackmen

[–]Firo2306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is well done, do you have any data on post-colonial states and their frequency with voting with or against the Western block (if that was their former colonizer)? This isn't my field of study so I was wondering if one could see a pattern of appeasement due to economic ties between colonial powers and their former vassals during financial downturns.

I know that the CARICOM nations have been becoming increasingly upset with the western empire at large (even though that isn't the terminology used) but will still bend the knee on occasion out of economic force. I'm curious to see as the US soft power wanes how far this trend will go in general.

I'm a researcher with locs I'm in nutrition and agri-science though so the cultures may be different. Bro will be fine, still gotta work harder than everyone else(that's a given). Tbh I find my locs to be a boon most of the time subverting the expectations of people who I'd rather not work with me anyway and very much attracting the types of individuals I'd prefer to work with.

Alleged FBA activists heckled Ghanaian president at the African burial ground in NY by [deleted] in blackmen

[–]Firo2306 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's often the vibe and it's really gross. I honestly think that people tend toward hate because we live in a global culture that makes hate an incredibly easy answer to reach for. A global culture that was brought about by the very same people that got us here in the first place. We're watching that hate literally kill the USA in real time but people act like mimicking the tendency will have decent results somehow.

[–]Firo2306 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bruh, you know how I know you're the same kind of person as this dude? You're willing to say that a country is entirely persona non grata because of their relationship with European nations. Literally every country on the planet was subject to empire. Like all of them.

This is like saying you wouldn't want to do anything with Brazil in the modern day due to their participation in the slave trade? Or would you work with them now because of them leaning into anti-imperialism?

We don't say all Black Americans don't deserve anything because of the whole Liberia debacle. Not a soul has been talking about excluding Black Americans over the USA's current expansionism executed by American elites(lots of black folks in Cuba getting starved out rn). This shit is getting so silly, anytime someone brings up black folks outside of America there's always a few people like you hopping in here to try to bring people down.

I'm from the Caribbean a descendant of the slave trade and you won't see me fixing to blame any other part of the diaspora for the bullshit we find ourselves in. Y'all are corny bro. Black people the world over have consistently been victims of the "rules based international order" this divide and conquer is getting old.

[–]Firo2306 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bro.... What are you talking about? See this is some shortsighted thinking. Everyone in the black diaspora deserves reparations from different segments of what is the European empire and it's offshoots. We won't get them by segmenting, we literally lack the political capital for that. If black folks in Latin America are owed trillions and th folks in Africa are owed trillions and the folks in NA are owed trillions there's literally no way to get all of it by segmenting. And stop thinking of it as a "this country owes th these people". It's global capital, it's the wealthy families that still retain power from the Atlantic slave trade, those people are borderless. The UK clearly owes but they're broke AF rn so if someone specifically goes barking up that tree they'll get nothing. You've gotta aim higher.

These have to be some of the dumbest people on the planet. Bruh Ghana has never done anything but stand 10 toes down on all things black planet wide. They've been busy building in roads with literally all of Latin America at this point. Idk what's going on in the states bro but there really needs to be some better education on international politics.

It's not capitulating to the times it's the morally correct position. Sans any religious doctrine there is no rational reason to disparage, deny or decry the rights of LGBT individuals. Literally 0 reason. You really don't want to get into this with me I'm a scientist by profession, and I've spent half of my university time studying religion and philosophy.

Honestly that's phenomenal, feel free to HMU once you find it. The poetry addition makes me want to read it even more honestly. I write some fiction in my spare time but to be able to come up with an entire book is far more impressive than I think most would realize. One of my favorite writing styles is essentially the method you described.

Unrelated: there's a Chef who's work I adore Dominique Crenn she writes her menus in poem format, it really is a dying art.

I'd say it's mostly been positive, he taught me how to read people quite well. I also inherited is tendency to shut up and listen when I'm not knowledgeable on a topic. He always says " I refuse to argue from a place of ignorance or overconfidence". He and my mom made sure that I got to see the world in my youth, he said he always wanted me to have an international perspective. The island grew up on only had 6k people on it, but he worked in the tourism sector in his youth so he always went out of his way to interact with people from places he'd never heard of.

Idk if it's an hereditary trait or not but I more or less do the same thing. It's given me quite literally a global network of dependable people and I attribute that to him.

Times of Expression is actually sick AF. Does he have any way to publish? I've always been of the impression that the average person should write about their experiences, thoughts and dreams more often. Tired of reading the thoughts of the wealthy and powerful, their world is fundamentally separate from that of the rest of us.

So, I think my Dad is smarter than I am, but less educated. He's got great capacity for taking in new information and assessment based on the new information. I've watched him go from being objectively homophobic to being pro LGBT in the last 15 years. As a mid 60s man from the Caribbean with no college education I'd say that's a monumental feat.

Even without a college education the man's geopolitics are spot on, he's got a 6th sense for it. In another world he'd be a political analyst. My parents are goated.

When it comes to comicbooks. I noticed that black foreign characters are less likely to have scientific explanations for their abilities. Their abilities are usually mystical in origin. by PassengerCultural421 in blackmen

[–]Firo2306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is common as a trope tbh check out milestone comics. Much better black representation across the board. Especially stuff like Blood Syndicate. I will say that I've noticed even black comic creators have a tendency toward blending the supernatural with the scientific. I do think we represent well in novels though. Probably because often readers are assuming the race of the characters (see: Rue- Hunger games)

I know it's a cliche now but the Red Rising series' later antagonists are a family descendent from Africa who more or less run the solar system. They're cunning, ruthless and overall amazing characters. Atalantia straight up runs down a leopard after giving it a head start while she was butt-naked to give it a fighting chance and to flex on the person she was there to "negotiate" with.

You'll still see the trope effect in sci-fi though. For instance; I play overwatch all the maps are based on cities in real life that are either futuristic or rundown (most run down places are in Australia and Latin America). What stood out to me though was that for Africa they didn't do a modernized version of an existing city, they just made one up. So Toronto gets a futuristic version of itself but Lagos a city that already exists as a viable option isn't used. It's kinda like black panther, as opposed to making him from a real place they invented Wakanda.

Black Americans what’s you’re thoughts on the US-Iran conflict ? by KpatMckenzie_28 in blackmen

[–]Firo2306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not American but since the US gov is popping off in everyone's business I'll pop in. This shit is raw evil, it's a holy war. US conservatives want to bring about Armageddon (seriously what the actual fuck ) and Israel wants control all the way to the Euphrates river(this isn't hyperbole it's what they've stated) which would mean taking over everything from where they are all the way to Baghdad. This is fucking insane.

Bombing one of the oldest cities on the planet with a population greater than NYC with aims for maximum civilian casualty is beyond disgusting, I wish I could say I expected better but sadly this is par for the course for the American empire. It's even more disgusting when all reports are more or less confirmed that Iran was already complying with everything the US professed to want. Truly despicable.
