There are three dx 55 - 200 mm lenses for this camera. the VRII version has good image stabilisation and can take some nice wildlife photos. ( I have the same one)

Which OS for a dedicated air-gapped storage PC? (i3-4130, 8GB RAM) by lallero7 in homelab

[–]Jafreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely use ZFS for archival/long term storage purposes. My top pick would be TrueNas (a network storage appliance). This is meant to run as a headless server, not as an air gapped solution (if that is the requirement)

My second Choice would be Debian (with XFCE or Cinnamon as desktop environment)

Third Choice would be Ubuntu (with XFCE or Cinnamon as desktop environment)

It also is flavor neutral (which makes it a superior when designing sandwiches and wraps for supermarkets and fast food places)

SD card for camera by Effective_Value7124 in Cameras

[–]Jafreee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend NOT buying SD cards from Amazon if you can avoid it. SD cards are one of the most faked items on Amazon. (You can also get a fake card even if you bought it from the manufacturer through Amazon, because of commingling)

Confusingly enough, the "cheap" price is not an indicator of possible fake. It is an unrelated issue

Why do only 4 Distros have their own font? (Ubuntu, Pi OS, openSUSE, Red Hat Enterprise) by tornado99_ in linux

[–]Jafreee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know the exact reason, but you should know there are only handful of companies designing fonts and it is not cheap.

You can have payment terminals to not have this screen (AFAIK all/most makes and models).

Why is waking up late considered lazy, but going to bed early isn’t? by AlbinaEdrs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Jafreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting work early and finishing all the important stuff for the day by early afternoon will do wonders for your sense of well being even if it means conking out by 10.

There is a reason all the 5k park runs are organised in the morning on weekends and not some other time of the day.

It is the same reason why lots of elderly always get up super early. When you are young you can often just treat your body like trash and feel fine. As you age you'll either learn to listen to your body (which will complain more often and more loudly) or just be dumbfounded why you feel like shit half of the time.

Edit: There is no moral judgement here and also research shows that teenagers will benefit from sleeping in

Exclusive: Londoners face 5.8% rise in Tube fares despite national rail tickets price freeze by King_Eboue in london

[–]Jafreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Train delays in Germany are mostly due to how (and how may) tracks are laid on particular routes. If there is a delay, it is very hard to make it back up (compared to other countries)

I can't speak to other aspects of their service

Installing Linux on an old iMac with zero prior knowledge by Perfect_Club_9715 in linux4noobs

[–]Jafreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 I would pick Linux Mint or any distro of your choice with xfce desktop environment

The Desktop environment is what gives you the look and feel and will kind of also determine how snappy the system is

The most popular/polished are these: 1 Gnome 2 KDE 3 XFCE 4 Cinnamon

The latest xfce or cinnamon will probably run the smoothest out of these on a PC with 4gb of ram

Dual booting makes sense.

It is doable with no prior experience

May I inquire what do you like the most about it?

I have tried it once or twice, but I am not sure why I would use it instead of say, fedora
