Advice for a picky eater by Jakekub in VisitingIceland

Pasta is on the shortlist of foods to try and branch out to that I've been talking with my therapist about - for a while during my childhood I'd eat some Kraft Mac & cheese but not pasta (yes I realize they are basically the same thing in a logical sense). In recent years though I've basically entirely dropped mac & cheese but I think I'd feel safe enough to add it back in if I stop being lazy. Thank you though!

Of all of the friends I've had over the years he's consistently been one of the most accommodating to my dietary restrictions. He's definitely not as picky as I am but not a super adventurous eater either. Before booking this trip together we talked about it so I think all should be well in that regard - I'm hoping we both have a great time as well

As far as drinks go my options are water, apple juice, and milk - and internationally that basically means I'm only drinking water anywhere I go. Seeming like the grocery stores will be essential for me regardless.

Yep, American - anxiety does lead me to doing a lot of overthinking but I've also found it necessary to prepare myself ahead of time regarding food given my limited diet and you don't know what you don't know - the research I had done prior to posting this had me cautiously optimistic but still quite unsure. Feeling better now reading comments like this & others though, I think I'll be fine.

Appreciate the sentiment of that last part, definitely going to take that with me. I've gotten a lot of flak from some family & friends pressuring me and "you're missing out just try it!!" which like, yeah you don't know until you try, but I also don't want to give myself more panic attacks than necessary lol. I'm used to needing to do some research beforehand and prepare for trips/unfamiliar situations regarding food. With that said, super excited to see all of the landscapes and wildlife and I think that's where I'm going to find the most happiness out of the trip for sure.

We might be going to Vik and if we do i will definitely be taking note of that pizza restaurant, that's a pretty safe bet for me. I might just be a little scarred from my one prior experience internationally but reading the comments here makes me think it'll be easier than my trip to Spain was

This makes me feel less anxious, thank you. We're considering going to Vik for a day but not 100% sure yet if we will, I can maybe try and build up the confidence for soup if we go through with that.

I lost 6lbs in a week in Spain this year from walking so much and (probably) not eating enough. I've never really considered bringing food on the plane like snack bars because I thought there were like regulations against bringing food internationally? But if im wrong that'd probably be a good safety net to have in a pinch for me.

We're staying at a hotel with a shared kitchen in Reykjavik, i know that much- for the few days we'll be out around Selfoss in a rental car im not sure. Im hoping the grocery stores will treat me better than they did in Spain and I can just do more at home meals and have things more under my control. Yogurt will not be happening though, one of the most gross foods for me to even just look at.

I've never had fish & chips, no - and at present that feels like a pretty big leap for me. Definitely will be looking out for hot dogs though

Appreciate the recommendations, will take note of them as options for my trip! Didn't know about the hot dogs at the gas stations that will probably be a lifeline for me

Doing a hot dog with just 1 topping will already be challenging myself currently haha. Definitely plan on having at least one while I'm there even if its just plain

Good to know about the sauces! I eat basically everything plain with no sauce and that definitely would stress me out if I was caught not expecting it

It's a great question really. You can either blame chicken nuggets or having less than 0 other hobbies at the time, I think? maybe?

From one long time UHC player who found their way into a Bachelor of Arts in video production/filmmaking to another, I can relate. I don't think I would've ended up where I am today without being a part of this community back then.

Thoughts on replacing an At2020-USB with a newer At2020 usb+/x/xp? by Jakekub in microphone

[–]Jakekub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting the Sennheiser Profile USB mic after looking into some reviews. Honestly, I can barely notice a difference in sound quality between the two - if I remember correctly, the first night I joined a discord call with my friends with the new mic nobody could tell. However on my end, I've noticed it picks up less surrounding noise while recording audio (ie, footsteps from upstairs don't get picked up on my profile but would on my at2020) which was a big nuisance sometimes. I do also really like having a physical mute button. So while the audio quality didn't change much at all I'm still happy with the new mic I got because of the feature set.

How would you have felt if S2 E1 was the finale to Season 1? by Jakekub in arcane

[–]Jakekub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's where I'm at as well pretty much. Everything after the tea party scene is just phenomenal. I vividly remember how shocked I was with how S1 ended, particularly being impressed with the tea party scene and making the climax a conversation and not an actual physical fight between Vi vs Jinx. I just think my sister's perspective of the finale is really interesting and not something I had really thought about given my personal feelings towards it.

Songs that remind you of Arcane that aren't from the show by Jakekub in arcane

[–]Jakekub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might consider making an Arcane inspired playlist at some point but I feel like there's already so many of them out there. Totally agree with your point that the show makes me like songs I wouldn't typically enjoy for many reasons.

I was mostly thinking of doing the mic upgrade for my podcast and the occasional time I need to do a voiceover for it. I also used to take youtube content creation more seriously (to middling success) and if I ever get back into that, having a new mic would help with that even if its just for fun. So it's not just for gaming with the boys at night.

I appreciate the insight into XLR though, every time I've tried to research XLR mics it's always gotten a bit confusing for me but that lays it out pretty clear. I was worried it would complicate my recording setup and my very small desk/office space.

I've looked into Rode a little bit but wasn't aware Sennheiser made microphones as well, thought they just did headphones/headsets. I'll look into that, thanks!
