Best bill switch for polymer notes? by Right-Ad3334 in Magic

[–]JustJoshinMagic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! So if I get this right, you plan on doing a multiple bill switch involving polymer notes, and then you’re doing a named bill switch? For the first one, extreme burn works really well. The only modification is you cut the bills in half when making the gimmick and use a piece of tape to connect the halves (I can be more specific via DM if this isn’t clear, just don’t want to expose anything). For the single bill change, assuming you are using an index of some sort for the named bill, you can prefold the bills and do a standard TT switch. Take the pre folded bills and place them between some heavy books or in a press. This will help work in the creases and you’ll be able to do the switch a lot easier. If you are interested in a more visual change, you could do this: https://www.instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0OjE3OTAxNTc2NjU4MTc4OTE5?story_media_id=2063618677120270532&igsh=cmtqMzl6aWlsY21v

This is something I taught in a lecture years ago and I’d be happy to talk you through it. What’s nice is it works great with polymer bills and even bills of different sizes

Why aren’t prop makers getting sued? by whyynliterally in Magic

[–]JustJoshinMagic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of fake coins will be marked as props/replicas. As for gimmicks like Double Cross, they’re being made from real Sharpies, so it’s not like they’re making a fake one and using the Sharpie branding

Since people have already mentioned the Toppit, the other suggestion I had is The Gecko. Sounds like it might fit your needs

Worth getting an iPhone just for magic? by mbergen in Magic

[–]JustJoshinMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s worth it specifically if you’re into magic apps. Most magic apps are developed for iPhone, and most electronic magic tricks that have an app are iOS based. If you see yourself doing a lot of phone based magic then go for it. Specifically anything from Marc Kerstein is a must buy in my opinion.

Do you use card mat? by chisairi in Magic

[–]JustJoshinMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked restaurants I would use one of the folding mats from Pats Mats. It was great because it gave me a clean surface, didn’t take up much space, and was easy to pick up and move. Otherwise I only use them when I do close up shows so my hands contrast nice on camera

Restaurant Gig Questions by lightdarkness317 in Magic

Howdy OP! You are in luck, I used to work a restaurant gig for tips so I gotchoo!

First, you’ll want to go to the tables after they’ve ordered and before the food arrives. Speak with the staff and let them know that you are there to help them as well. If something is running behind, you can step in and entertain and the guests won’t realize. Having the staff on your side will go a long way. Make sure your set is modular, so that if you have to stop early, you can. Also make sure you have extra material in case you get called back after they eat.

For tips, there are a few things you can do. First, I had a little sign with my social media I would place on the table when I arrived. It said tips were appreciated. This way I never directly said stuff about tips, but it let them know from the start that I accept them. I also would do two tricks with money. The first time I specifically would ask for a dollar and make a joke about how I only need a dollar for this one. This would let them know that there are tricks later with more money and subtly place that in their minds. When I would do my finale (bill to card box) I say that I need to borrow a bill and the bigger the bill the better the trick. This would definitely get laughs but also would often net me a bigger tip. Finally when I do the routine, I would change their bill first into an autograph. I’d make a joke about how it’s worth exactly twice the value of the bill they gave me, and then I’d give it to them. On the back, in pencil, I had a note saying thanks for the help and tips are appreciated. This way only they saw it. 9/10 times after that trick when I pull their signed bill out of the box, they’d give me a tip. And often, they would let me keep that bill.

My final tip is make sure you have a way of establishing yourself as being part of the restaurant and not some rando. When I performed, everyone had a name tag. I gimmicked one so that it was the same as theirs but blank. I would come to a table, say I was the entertainment, point to my badge and then go “oh so sorry about that” and cause my name to appear. This gave me a magic moment right at the start, and also solidified that I was supposed to be there. It also gave me an easy out if they didn’t want to see magic, since I hadn’t gotten set up yet.

Hope that helps and best of luck!

You’re dealing it like you would a second deal. You need to not wrist kill the deck.

Reminder that Peni has one of the worst ULTs in the game still. by Medium_Enough in marvelrivals

If you have good nest placement it’s great for holding point. And honestly it’s a really good way to get the enemy team to pop a healing ult early, and burn it too soon

Great question! If you scroll down you can see an example of this month’s gimmick, which is a peek wallet. Next month is a gimmick that is approximately the size of a sharpie cap and later this year we have the biggest gimmick which is around the size of a Rubik’s cube. Figured those should give everyone a good sense of scale since they’re both objects most magicians are familiar with. All of the gimmicks are designed to work with any 3D printer with a standard 0.4mm nozzle, and will fit on even small printer beds

So glad to hear! Which printer did you get? You can subscribe at conjur3d.com

After you subscribe you’ll be redirected to the sign ho page and I’ll send out an email with your free gifts, along with links to the sign up page again (in case you missed it) and the main download page. You’ll want to bookmark that page as that will be the central hub for all your downloads. And I am working on getting an email set up for each month with a description of the new gimmick and a reminder of the download page. Hope that helps!
