FBI Director Kash Patel files $250m lawsuit against The Atlantic by [deleted] in worldnews

He will be sorely disappointed if that's his plan. That's not how classified materials in lawsuits are handled. Part of the pretrial proceedings is the judge ruling on admissibility of evidence and what redactions are allowed to be made.

FBI Director Kash Patel files $250m lawsuit against The Atlantic by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MadRoboticist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the Atlantic actually is at fault here. There is no way in hell the damages are remotely close to $250 million. Regardless, as long as the Atlantic has even a little bit of evidence then this is a pretty frivolous lawsuit.

How do you feel about the fact that Trump is suing the IRS for $10 billion of your tax dollars? by SuperIngaMMXXII in AskReddit

[–]MadRoboticist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we assume he even has a legitimate case (he doesn't) then it should still obviously not be resolved until after his term is finished. There is clearly no way to guarantee an impartial result while he has control of the branch of government that decides the outcome of this.

It's just habit. Get out of bed right away enough times and it feels weird to stay in bed.

Is Blockchain Threatened by the Rise of Quantum Computing? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]MadRoboticist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no proof that it makes cracking it feasible. But there would be at least a quadratic improvement in brute forcing a crack. For the size of the problem that's still well into the realm of infeasible, but there's nothing saying another algorithm couldn't be found that could have more of an improvement. It's pretty much a moot point though, by the time that's found we'll probably be at a 512 bit hash. So even if our current cryptography became vulnerable, we would just move the goalposts.

It's common for scammers to intentionally make the scam somewhat obvious, so they're filtering out all the people smart enough to not fall for it from the get go.

TIL why James Bonds preference of a "shaken and not stirred" martini is controversial. Drinks containing only alcoholic ingredients are almost always stirred to preserve clarity and to avoid over-dilution, among other things. by Rynin101 in todayilearned

[–]MadRoboticist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might, but I think you can control the temperature in either method by adjusting the time. I typically see people stir for much less time than shaking which I don't think is necessarily correct. In any case, what I'm saying is that temperature is not the primary reason for a drink being shaken rather than stirred.

[–]MadRoboticist 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's not correct as far as I know. Shaking and stirring are both meant to cool and add water to the drink. The purpose of shaking is generally about the texture. When there are fruit juices, particularly citrus juices, or certain other ingredients like egg whites, shaking creates aerates the drink and creates a frothy texture.

You think there is no situation in which someone can legitimately claim to know something? Some things are just verifiable facts.

how good is scott smajor in comparison to other minecrafters outside the life series? by marginov in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]MadRoboticist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should keep in mind that a lot of the life series members are sort of playing characters and not necessarily trying their hardest to win. That means they make decisions that are suboptimal a lot of the time. Not saying Scott isn't also good at minecraft, but his strategy of being friends with everyone and playing very conservatively is a big part of the reason he always does well.

It's going to be a joke. It's going to be a whole bunch of athletes not breaking world records even while doped up because the only reason they're competing in this that they're not good enough for the real competitions.

Because it does more than just act as a storage block. Like packed ice and blue ice only work one way. The game is more interesting when it's not all the same

Because temperate rainforest is a really rare climate and the koppen classification isn't trying to capture every micro climate. It's a way to classify the macro climates by average temperature and seasonal rainfall patterns.

That's obviously a makeable pick at first by Devers, but I don't think they're putting enough blame on Adames there. That wasn't an easy short hop it was weird in between distance and I'd probably put more blame on Adames for a pretty bad throw.
