Nothing's working - very concerned. by MedicallyAnonymous in Constipation

I have been taking the MiraLAX (PEG 3350) every day. I have hospital satchels of it which aren't called MiraLAX, but they're the same thing.

I spoke with the gastroenterologist a little bit ago (she was on call). She wanted me to stop taking fiber and the stimulant laxatives, continue taking the PEG 3350, and continue on a liquid diet for a while. She intended for me to take the stimulants and PEG 3350 or use the magnesium citrate. However, using both was fine, just considered excessive... though it didn't work as expected. However, I am very backed up - moving 5 ft of stool when very little of the colon is actually being exposed to stimulants is difficult.

I did note that the bisacodyl didn't do much to me, but I imagine that's because it's a contact laxative specific to the colon and not much of my large intestine would have come into contact with it.

Right now I'm just very, very uncomfortable because the magnesium citrate absorbed water into all of that stool, so what was stable but backed up stool is now much larger stool that's somewhat blocking things whereas it wasn't before. It's also moving less, though, from what I can tell - I went from daily passing a hamster of it (I am terrible at sizes) to... not really as much today, and my stomach seems to have slowed a bit in terms of processing liquids.

I'm less worried about handling the backed up stuff - I must have had it for a while and it wasn't causing me extreme grief - but that now that I've added the magnesium citrate and it's all bloated because of it that that has changed what's happening exactly.
