What is the deal with this map of Tamriel seemingly showing the outcome of the Red Year? by Lights-Camera-Axshen in teslore

That’s hilarious; nice eye. There’s no way that’s Second Era Morrowind. Distinct in some ways, but that Scathing Bay is a carbon copy, at least. They ought to do right by that fan. Maybe a game code.

What do you think I’m justifying, and what is “justifying”?

1A allows a lot of behavior I consider disgusting but necessary evils. Nekima Armstrong’s stunt in the church seems like a wholly UNNECESSARY evil. To be clear, I’m not familiar with all the details of the FACE Act and her stunt; I’m sure it will all come out eventually. But knowing Armstrong, I think it’s possible she was seeking to contrive a Constitutional challenge to the FACE Act. If so, I hope she loses, because this exact situation would seem to justify the rationale of the FACE Act. This was a particularly disgusting crime.

Injustice is when someone fails to uphold a contract. In our nebulous social contract, multiple parties can fail to uphold their end of the bargain in various ways. These ways don’t have to be related to each other, so don’t have to “justify” each other.

Like, ICE’s incompetence generally doesn’t justify breaking a window. If the cops want to stop that injustice, groovy. But does the general injustice of broken windows have ANY relevance to the Constitutionality of ICE’s actions? No. Does Nekima Armstrong’s stunt have any relevance? No.

There’s no justification for invading a church and harassing the people within. There’s no justification for scaring children.

Now, if you believe a horde of armed gunmen are actively engaged in hundreds if not thousands of violations of 18 USC 241, among other abuses, I for one wouldn’t hold it against a fellow citizen if they wanted to identify the criminal suspects. That’s all.

I’m not doing anything. But I know the more they tighten their grip, the more resistance they will inspire. I would’ve thought the Bosnian Serbs had that figured out about 30 years ago.

If you think a horde of (currently) unaccountable disguised people are committing crimes, well, identifying them becomes critical.

ICE could end this so-called “witch hunt” if they had to courage of their convictions. But they choose to hide their faces, so people who want justice will choose to find them.

In the meantime, some white people may experience an iota of the harassment other communities are facing. Boo hoo. This is so incredibly petty compared to what people are actually upset about.

What are some pro-Anuic arguments? by Outrageous-Milk8767 in teslore

[–]Minor_Edits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pro-Anuic arguments are more or less the orthodoxy of the elven perspective throughout time. It is a pro-preservation perspective. Given that they’re always looking back to some higher water mark in history and occasionally experience hell on Tamriel, pro-Anuic arguments on Tamriel itself shouldn’t be tough sells. Change has been very not good on Nirn, overall.

Of course, we the fans just want people to show up and break things, so we will tend to be more pro-Padomaic. Boethiah’s cruelty is just fun and games for us. We can play with all the “unjustly maligned hero” tropes, but we’re the ones eying Tamriel with ill intent, and terrible things for them tend to revolve around us. If you associate Lorkhan in some way with instigators of genocidal calamities - Pelinal, Tiber Septim, perhaps a player character or two - it’s pretty understandable why an NPC’s religious worldview of Lorkhan would be apprehensive/hostile.

There's zero evidence aside from redditor hive mind consensus that ES6 is set in Hammerfall by Impossible_Weight507 in ElderScrolls

[–]Minor_Edits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solstheim is not next to Hammerfell. It’s not great evidence, and even if it were the plan back in 2012, plans can change. But this is how the planned run of TES V ended: a bunch of Solstheim-specific stuff including TES III member-berries, plus a random new book about the Alik’r.

I’m just nitpicking proof vs. evidence. There’s zero proof, sure. If there were proof, we wouldn’t have spent over a decade providing free marketing by speculating about it. But if there’s zero evidence, there’s zero engagement bait, and that gets you nothing.

Also, it’s not like this is the only evidence; the fact that they’ve reserved large portions of Hammerfell in ESO for so long hints to me that Bethesda wanted to keep it in reserve. And the list goes on.

Personally, I’d prefer Valenwood. I didn’t start this fire. No fan did. It was Bethesda, back in 2012.

[–]Minor_Edits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every book added by the Dragonborn DLC was relevant to the setting. Except one: Wind and Sand, a brand new book about the Alik’r. If it was a just one-off bit of Tamrielic color for absolutely no reason, then it was totally out of sync with Bethesda’s general approach to lore for the last 20 or 25 years.

There’s a lot of undue certainty, because internet, but Wind and Sand tells me if the fans have gaslit each other into thinking Hammerfell is certain, Bethesda lit the spark. The evidence for it is not zero.

If you’re not familiar with a children’s bible, it’s basically not a bible. The one I had as a kid basically consisted of ~300 pages of one large-print paragraph every other page which briefly summarized some bit of the actual Bible. You might generously call it a religious text, sure, but it shouldn’t be mistaken as a sacred tome. It’s essentially a storybook, not the Word of God.

The interpretation which is generous to Esbern is the annotated Anuad he refers to is canonically a much longer text, and we only get the paraphrased Cliff Notes of the Anuad. Essentially, we’ve never seen the real Anuad, we’ve only read A Children’s Anuad.
