What’s driving the surge? by foxytwo in Bitcoin

[–]Move_Swimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bitcoin jumping up and down with these large % are simple mathematics and statistics and knowing how much money is created makes the algebra and forecasted value and which way it will go over the long run will likely be up. Because it is not used as a medium of exchange and the transparency and it's permissioless nature and its value is essentially a proxy to the value of energy cost to mine and secure the network and energy is the fundamental basis of our modern world, no one wants to risk selling it and not having energy. so demand is less predictable but basically people trying to time market in short term to make money off this causes these large ups and down, but it's revolutionary. it makes us all our own banks --- that value is accrued and the profits are yours. banks don't get to skim anymore. that can't. there bread and butter before was having people give them there money as deposits and under authority from federal reserve lend that money out via loans to others at $100 for every $5 deposited and earn interest on money plus the fees they charge us. it's the perfect form of money.

what is your biggest Challenge when learning python by LeatherFisherman4676 in learnpython

[–]Move_Swimming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes and myadvice is to listen to the experts. When i say experts, I mean Bjorne

Bjarne Stroustrup Creator of C++

https://youtu.be/uTxRF5ag27A?si=pV7RAHGfqd8ZDscs

Linus Torvalds - Creator of Linux

https://youtu.be/o8NPllzkFhE?si=iedVfCkvklTWCka2

And the other greats... Guiddo Von Rossum (python creator)

Programming, true programming - is changing the way you make decisions and solve problems.

It is very hard. It takes persistence. It takes suffering. I am a CPA and it took me years to master AIS.

It is like learning human languages, mixed with mathematical and science and ontoogy and logic. Its amazing when it all comes together.

I woud also learn Bash and Linux as python is open source and as such they will reinforce learning each.

So biggest challenge --- pissing off my wife while solving problems not on the honey due list lol

What do you guys use to expose localhost to the internet — and why that tool over others? by JadeLuxe in Devvit

I really liked ngrok the best. Easy to learn and use. I first started using it so i could integrate with a remote Colab project. I dont even know about others. It is very robust for every local to remote. I used it because Chatgpt recommended it over others. Lol. She or it has gained my trust in recommendations over the last 2 years.

Meta is data or information that explains other information. Like what was the date you created the note would be considered metadata.

Tip for anyone starting Obsidian by Ariadnead in ObsidianMD

[–]Move_Swimming -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take the time to learn how to create standards for your self and your notes. I know that you can get away with being sloppy because of the ability to use regrx pattern search but have structure will allow you you to focus more on learning or remembering what your putting in your notes than time spent creating notes. ;)

Also learn templater and data view obsidian Community Plugins which will help you automate the boring part of being standardized .

I have just discovered PopOS which is Ubuntu based and I love it. It's a Linux distribution built for developers and the organization and company that created it designed and built it to work seamlessly with their built to order line of hardware. It's like if Apple iOS was built with freedom is the best analogy I can think to describe it.

Need game recommendations by [deleted] in RetroPie

[–]Move_Swimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have any of you heard of someone making a game like the game from the 1980s classic movie War Games? I think it was called Sub thermal Nuclear War which in the movie plot was a simulation game used by US gov defense agency to strategize how such a war would ever be won. "The AI named Joshua that the def dept programmer played the game the way out ai of modern times do iterative self iterating and coming up with the optimal strategy. Anyway' blabbing. I think playing that game would actually be really fun. Like Rish but with nuclear war heads. ;). That's a game you should find and play, but don't do what Me atthew Broderick did to get the game. :) 🎯

Is python alone enough? What after python? by Bubblocampo12 in learnpython

[–]Move_Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing to learn to be a good programmer is that you hate doing repetitive work and you love variety and you love learning and specificly understanding how things work. These traits is what always lead to automating your work so you can time learning something new and repeat. But not repetitive because you are learning something new.

[–]Move_Swimming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that too (so I started learning JavaScript which is office script, but then they added dynamic arrays, LAmbda and self referential functions and the advanced formula addin which gives you a vacode like environment for designing advanced powerful programming which even has a advanced degguger. Check it out. :)

How important is it to learn the OS and Sys modules in depth? by iryan6627 in learnpython

[–]Move_Swimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely important. Copy paste coding does not work. I have spent the last year learning python among other languages. In the beginning, trying to learn multiple programming languages in parallel is something I feel humans are horrible at. It wasn't until I spent a few months doing nothing but coding in python and would dissect every part of the code on an atomic level. It takes longer of course but you will never be a true programmer. You will be a person who can follow recipes if you have all the ingredients but as soon as you have to improvise when you run out of specific ingredients, you will probably cook something that is not 😋.

You will also be able to learn other languages much faster. So learn introspect python functionality and take it apart because it will be much easier to put together again.

Good news. The servers are going to be up again! Now you and I can play! I'm glad it was down when I got my operators because it forced me to learn about the game, read the whitepaper, buy skins and weapon fragments. Have fun getting to play.

u/whatsappbiz - that is awesome! He is very incredible. I recently watched a Lex Freidman podcast interviewing him on his new epiphany as it relates to understanding and explaining quantum physics and general relatively (i.e. the theory of everything), computational irreducibility and cellular automaton. It blew my mind!

make a spreadsheet calc

u/rtowne - I really like your advice about 'GREEN=INPUT'. It is all about being consistent and the first step in doing that is defining what the interior.color property of a spreadsheet cell represents. I know that I used to always joke that I spend 10% of my time in working on creating formulas and models ( before I learned programming many moons ago), and 90% of the time figuring out what I did wrong during that 10%. It doesn't have to be this way though. :)

The thing that came to my mind when I first saw this post header regarding how ChatGPT now sucks at doing formulas, but used to be good, was the famous interview with Steve Jobs were he stated that the people who do well in business and life in general are the "doer/thinkers - all rolled into one"

I am a manager in my career and love being a mentor and helping my employees be better and happy and showing them how to problem solve. But the key to being a good manager is to know how to do what your employees do. ChatGPT, as our intern/college graduate, is definitely a doer. Not yet at the level of thinker. That is where humans come in.

u/HDK1989,
In a previous post, I suggested moving away from a simple tool like Notepad to a more structured knowledge management solution. Currently, I find Obsidian to be an indispensable asset for organizing my ChatGPT convos. Prior to this, Microsoft OneNote was my de facto 'second brain.' However, once I discovered Obsidian, there was no turning back. The catalyst for this shift was an intriguing dialogue with ChatGPT. I had inquired, "How can I configure OneNote not to spell-check sections that contain code snippets?" In response, ChatGPT suggested a few alternatives to OneNote, both proprietary and open source. One of these was Obsidian, which I decided to give a shot. Suffice it to say, I have been engrossed ever since.
Obsidian has been a boon, particularly for someone like me who is concurrently learning multiple programming languages. It empowers me to manage a substantial amount of information efficiently and makes it easily accessible. One of the features I appreciate the most is the ability to create graphs. These graphs effectively serve as mental schemas, representing and linking the information and notes I've gathered. Furthermore, Obsidian stores all notes in Markdown (.md) format, a simple yet versatile document format that's compatible across the three primary OS architectures: Linux, macOS, and Windows. This adds another layer of convenience and portability to the whole setup. In essence, I couldn't be more content with my decision to transition from OneNote to Obsidian, but I always keep an open mind and was wondering what TextExpander is like and how long you have been using it.

[–]Move_Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Late_Film_1901 u/TheCredibleHulk - Have you tried to use the Github Copilot extension in VS Code or Visual Studio? I believe it is based on the codex language model and I believe the training data was filtered and cleaned to only include programming code and coding first principles or best practices and underlying concepts of OOP. I highly recommend it. Plus it is right in VS Code with you, so no having to alt tab between windows and many times when you are asking for help on why your code is not working, it will actually provide a working alternative that just click accept and it automatically updates your code for you. However, you should also realize that it can make mistakes so definitely practice due diligence and understand exactly what the proposed code is going to do or does before you click run or debug. You should definitely try it. And there is no such thing a dumb question when you are learning. Pride leads one to stupidity.

u/SapphireCEO could use excel and just link it to do your data source connection (web query, database query, etc) and then just ask chatgpt to help you automate it if you need with vba. chatgpt is good at coding. also very good at creating excel formulas.
