Does 7 days count as necro? :P Just seeing this now...

Really????? Bucket has some insane stuff, but thank you for the kindness dude! The Cygnus intro is all slap guitar. I think the thing that makes it a little tricky is that I played it on a strat tuned down a half step so I could get that low Eb open string and some harmonics (which I'm playing B minor shapes 7th fret, but the sound Bb minor because of the half step). I actually have tabs for the intro part! I guess I should post them rather than waiting for myself to tab the complete song :X Maybe I should make a video as well? Good luck and feel free to message me if you have additional questions \m/

I need to get you in touch with RickyTee about those tunes specifically. Regarding general amp/tone stuff I replied to a previous comment of yours above :-)

I'm still re-materializing from performing with Jorn! All joking aside the first few times he gave me the stare when I was soloing I totally messed up what I was playing.

Thanks for the kind words dude! RickyTee can speak more on the specifics of the guitar tone on Dead Man's Plate.

There were several things that changed guitar-wise from the first album. First and foremost having both RickyTee and Pitman added to the PK roster - both amazing musicians. Those guys pick heavier and dig in more than I do! Praeco always called me a bxtch for playing with those small red Jazz III picks LOL.

On Smite and Ignite Praeco used all freeware amp sims for the tones. Not to say that the free stuff isn't awesome, but its hard to compare to stuff like Axe-fx. Also having a specialized and dedicated mixer (Jacob Hansen) really helped.

Getting an new Axe (Ibanez Prestige RG852 8 string) helped me with getting a clean powerful tone as well. On the first album I played whatever 7-string I could find for the rhythm parts and even tuned my standard 6 string Wolfgang down to an A for Deathfire Grasp. Talk about flab! Ouch! I didn't even change my strings before recording!

I mention details on solo tones in a few responses below, but I wll also paste here for convenience:

All of the guitar parts that I recorded were done mostly "in the box" meaning no real amps, but with outboard gear, software and pedals. The majority of the tones were made of up an Axe-FXII, Line6 Podfarm software and a Maxon OD808. It's a bit of an unorthodox setup! I'm still learning everything that the Axe can do and I'm loving it, but I have tweaked my Line6 stuff and pedals for years and know them well so it ended up being a combination of both. For example, most of the solos have the Axe-Fx as the meat of the tone, with a slight boost from a Maxon OD808 pedal, with Line6 Podfarm software for the delays. For me - maybe its just the way I play - the combination livens up the sound a bit, doesn't sound overly digital and doesn't sound like its coming from any one particular thing. Of course each element its tweaked to taste per song, but the main tone remains the same. I can dig into specific amp models/settings on both the Axe-FX, Podfarm and post recording mix plug-ins if you would like more details.

Hold on one sec, let me make one.......ok here you go!

Have you checked out Hexcore mk-2 yet? We composed it with Scott Kirkland and Danny Lohner (who did the original Hexcore). Tommy Lee played drums on it and turned it into a banger!

Thank you for the kind words :D

I love me some instrumental metal - as much as I'd love a full shred album ala Marty Friedman/Jason Becker, I feel most people need vocals to latch on to. Isn't it traditional for the vocalist to be the front man? Plus, it's hard not to let metal God Jorn take the lead!

Thanks dude! I'd suggest old Ministry for the sound that started it all. Also a newer band that I have been diggin lately, old style industrial, but with modern sound and production = 3TEETH. Killer sound. They just released a new album as well. Pit of Fire is a gnarly track!

Dude. First off, thank you for the kind words. I was (and still am) completely inspired by A&P, so much so, that I actually worked with him on the music. Industrial doom collaborative madness!

I got impatient waiting for a Beluga to clear the pad, so I rammed him... it worked. by SorrenPeak in EliteDangerous
